Powerlifting Chat

The main gym thread is getting a little too crowded, thought i start a different thread here for those who likes to really lift. If this doesn't work it can always sink down below and never to be seen again haha.

Dont think I would call myself a "powerlifter" but I do love to eat a truck load of food & push heavy weights every day that I'm off from work.

Do I count if I can only bench 180 and leg press 300.

Its a work on process but for someone my size that not to shabby.

Meh, I don't call myself anything. I pretty much do whatever I feel like doing now days. The only thing you wont catch me religiously doing is working on aesthetics. I have the occasional bicep workout but that is normally because my motivation is low and its easy/quick to work them. I am your typical bullheaded male though. If I feel challenged in some way you best believe I will work my ass off to be better. As of recent my friends are small 20 year old some guys so I feel perfectly content. Its a nice break for now.

My gym would be sweet if I had some more weight. I mostly focus on cleans and snatches because I haven't the skill of strength to exceed my 300 some pounds in bumpers.

Great! Yeah that thread was crowded.
I want to post a challenge to my fellow power and Olympic lifters/
It's the 10/10 hypertrophy marathon.
Essentially 225x10 for incline bench, squat, Dl
Super set for 10 sets. 1 min break between super sets

For those stronger fellas, 245.

No. Not because you only bench 180, but because you use a leg press. Squat below parallel or GTFO

I starting hitting the gym again 6 months ago after a lazy 3 year break. I'm hitting the 235 on bench again, I'm older now so I kinda stay away from the squats, and power lifting days I did years ago when I was younger. I focus more on eating better and staying in shape..

work on the big 3 is all you need to be a powerlifter, number is irrelevant

that's because you are doing olympic lifting. that stuff is too hard man, too much skills involved.

What's the difference between leg press and squating. Other then you can mess up your back.

The biggest difference is how the weight is being supported. A squat is going to require far more stability as well.

First day back yesterday since i caught a cold last week, actually a pretty decent leg day.
worked up to 405x5 for 2 sets and dropped the weight and did some pause squats with 375. some glute ham raises and then for the first time ever 30 mins of cardio. i think the cardio sucked more than squatting lol i hate cardio

Generally, squats will only "mess up your back" if youre doing them wrong as shit. A leg press will work your legs I guess, but squats will work your entire damn body. Especially if you front squat and overhead squat as well.

Overhead is rough. I think the most I have done is around 180lbs. I need to start squatting more again .

I was a sprint swimmer in college and our strength program consisted mainly of power lifts. Ever since I've graduated a couple years ago I've kept lifting as a hobby. It's really interesting how many variations of the main compound lifts there are, and how certain sports emphasize them.

Which I did. When I was first learning my coach didn't tell us how he just said lift as heavy as we can get it and if we don't drop it or fall we aren't trying hard enough
