Mesniscal injuries are a big problem. They act as natural shock absorbers and friction-reducers within the knee joint, and having even a portion removed usually doesn't end well.
I have actually known and heard of quite a few people that have had the torn portion of the meniscus removed and resumed an active lifestyle like running, etc. I have had to do some research currently due to the fact that I have a torn meniscus in my left knee and have been living with it for the past nine months.

Case in point a fellow co worker has had his meniscus tear cut out and was back running lightly after eight weeks. He is 53 years old but is in great shape as well.

I can only hope to do as well seeing as I have a physically demanding job and I don't do well planted behind a desk. I wish you the best of luck.

Oh, return to normalcy is definitely possible, but there's almost always some long term effect. I'd be willing to bet your co-worker will have onset of arthritis in that knee before he would've sans tear. But that's really neither here nor there.

Basically, some cases resolve quite well, others don't. It's always a matter of context.

The correction of the problem will usually outweigh the early onset of an arthritic condition. There is not a distinct timetable of when or if arthritis will set in which leaves it open to many variables.

Never argued otherwise. My point is, there's always an effect.

The other side had a tear very close to where there is no blood supply meaning that re-attachment was a no go since the lack of blood flow meant it prolly would not take. So that side was cleaned of scar tissue.

I wasnt 100% sure which was which. Today I went for a checkup and said that Im still in pain after ADL's (activities of daily living, walking, showering, standing, to do the necissary routines in life minus working). She asked me which side bothered me the most. I said the outside portion of the knee. She kinda slumped down in disapointment I suppose. She said "I knew u were going to say that one, but needed you to confirm it". Apparently thats the side that went without being cutout or re-attached.

Now it looks like I/ we are stuck fighting work comp for another surgery and I get to do this all over again. Great, as of november my pay will be cut to 2/3 because it will be 1 year out of work.

To say I am depressed is an understatement. I have been in pain from this for a long time and frustrated that no-one believed me (past ortho and GP). Now I have an awesome doc and she feels like she may cripple me for life if she does this surgery. I told her "hey I already cant work, Im in pain, whats the difference?" " at least we stand a chance that it might work, right now I dont care because I am already disabled".

In another sad twist, apparently its normal to NOT be able to apply pressure (kneeling) to the joint after ortho surgery. I wasnt expecting that at all.

Anyone else have over half of their meniscus removed? I know I will be facing long term issues with it, but curious just how bad. I have to be able to wrestle criminally insane individuals to the floor or put em against a wall on a regular basis. I dont know if I will be able to go back, or for how long.

Ill attach a pic of the meniscus in a couple minutes with the problem area and the removed area.
Damn Wolfpack, I can almost feel the pain you must be feeling.....shit.....a lifetime of pain and rehab...that's the shits.

It happens i guess.

The brainiacs I work for decided not to direct deposit my check so I had to ask them to hand it to the watch commander who I am on good terms with thankfully. When I showed up to pick up my check from him, he told me that one of his officers was hurt pretty bad about the same time I was. The officer has one leg that feels like its on fire, and the other is completely numb. Something about spinal compression.

I guess its all just part of the game here . It does pay the bills though, well for another 12 months till I lose my job if Im not better healed at least.
