Diabetes got me Bummed Again

Had a Doctors appointment today and checked my Blood/Urine work and got a slight increase of protein in my urine normal count is 30 something I got 42 the Doc says not to worry that well have another test to watch it at 6months also my Blood pressure was 130/75 and rechecked at 138/80 after I recieved the urine news, Im on 20mg Lisinopril for the B.Pressure too. my A1c is 6.3 I lost at least 35lbs. of weight and my previous BP 3months before was 118/75? This shit bums me the f-ck out Ive had Type 1 Diabetes at least 22 years I hope this gets better not worse the Doc says to get more exercise and of course keep the Blood Sugars good ,this sh-t just keeps creeping back into my life it never gives up trying to f-ck your life up and complicate sh-t. A similar thing happened to me at least 10yrs. ago when I wasnt regulating myself good and had Proteins in the Urine but I got my sh-t together and it didnt show up again till now,I hope I can tighten up my game again sos this sh-t goes away again it scares the crap out of me thinkin about Dialysis and Kidney transplants I aint there yet but dont want it gettin worse. Been layedoff from my job so Im inactive alot so I better get Physical back in my life and stop drinkin coffee.

It seems like you're doing well with it. Sometimes some people just have to live with it and manage it. Doesn't mean you won't live a long fruitful life. I was diagnosed 2 years ago. When I first found out, I got my levels down, lost a good 20-30 lbs and got my A1-C down to about your levels, but it did the same thing. Never went away. 6 mos later I got so tired of checking my levels and pricking my fingers I just let it go and gained about 15 lbs. I decided finally after my daughter was born to see an endocronologist to get me back on the wagon. Hopefully this time for good because I've got a little one I need to live for. If I have to prick my fingers for the rest of my life, I guess that's what it will take to be around for her.

Vent away man, but don't get discouraged like I did. Good luck!

Sorry to hear the bad news, I hope you get better quickly.

I agree with the guys above, its hard to get motivated to get out and exercise, but try to walk every day as routinely as possible. Maybe a community center nearby that you could get involved in, usually cheaper than a gym and helps when the weather is not nice.

I've been living with type 1 for about 5 years now. Got it under decent control but for the past month or two I've been having a tough time with it. I started up school for 20h/week and work minimum 40h/week. I haven't had much time to get exercise in.

I find that with regular exercise, it keeps the sugars in far better check.... but because I don't have much time, it's very frustrating when they are always higher than they should be.

This disease is an extremely high-maintenance one. It stresses me out sometimes.

I've started with an insulin pump about 5 months ago and it makes things a little easier. Rather than jab myself with a needle 5 times a day (+ all the pricks from checking blood sugar), I only have to change the needle once every 3 days.... but I'm permanently hooked up to this pager-sized device. Took me some time getting used to being physically attached to a piece of electronic equipment.

All is good though... I still compete in cycling (mountain biking), take my motorbike to the race track, snowboard in the mountains.

Be strong and know that there's others out there dealing with the same thing and understand where you're coming from.

Thanks I was going to get the pump but found out that its just another delivery system for insulin, wierd question for you how do you go about having relations with women(Knocking the Boots) with that thing(insulin pump) can you take it off? Id feel self concious about having it on doing the wild thing. Although your right about one less thing to worry about having a pump I just happened to forget an insulin syringe today before lunch and may sugar jacked up to 203 by the time I got home to get one. When I was working my regulation of Diabetes was great I was active and eating and activities were regimented. Plus Ive had it for 20+yrs.

Yup Im feelin man its up and down alot, sometimes when you doing good you feel like the King of the Hill, but then something starts not going right it cuts ya down at the knees. I think keeping it right has alot to do with timing and regimentation almost military like precision of eating/exercising/keeping stress levels in check.I bounced back before Ill do it again it aint found a way to kill me yet.

For everyone on here managing this disease, I was wondering what kinds of foods do you find the most helpful. I know you want to stay away from carbs, but I'm finding that my diet is the biggest problem. I can go out and exercise easy enough, but I'm getting tired of rabbit food. Can anyone give some examples of a good meal plan for people with this disease?

Went Veggie here not because of killing Bambie but I read a book how its better for Diabetic control not eating High Protein/High Sat. Fats. Morning Star Brand has some really good Veggie Burgers called Tomato Basil that Sh-t is good it helped me lose weight quicklytoo I think Rabbit Food is the only way we can roll, even knocked out all fast food one Beer a day Becks 64calorie my only relief.

The pump consists of the pump device which houses the insulin, a hose (forget the technical name for it), and the needle part that is secured to the body with a 1.5" round adhesive pad. You can easily un-clip the cord from the needle part with a 1/8th turn..... for those times when you want to get freaky with the ladies. After you're done, you just clip it back on. Same deal for when you get in the shower, pool, hottub, etc. You can have it off for an hour or so without a significant rise in sugars providing you're not eating during that time.

The nice thing about the pump is I don't have to worry about fussing around with a long-acting dose at night or in the morning. It's also nice not to always have to pack up fast acting and long-acting insulin and syringes when staying somewhere overnight.

Sorry about the bad news. We are here for you if you need to vent....

Good thing (well sort of) you can get out and walk in the daylight. that's one thing I hate this time of year... not being able to walk in the daylight. Park at the far end of the parking lot (leads to less door dings too) to get a little more exercise. If the weather is crappy outside, then take an extra lap around the inside of the store.

I have been a type 1 diabetic for 23 years. My first 20 years with diabetes i didnt take care of myself. After dieing twice....(yes I was DOA) once for a 1200 BS, kindney failure, ketoneacidtosis etc... and the last time i was in a car accident due to a low BS, when paramedics got to me, my BS was 14. My average a1c was 7.9 ~ 8.8. Not good.
I too have protien in my urine, guess what...its all part of the game. My doc has me on a low dose blood pressure medicine for my kidneys. Talk to your doc about putting you on Quinapril

After all that I decided to take control of this disease. I called Medtronic. Talked to my doc and he gave me the approval

I have been on the pump for 1 1/2 years now. Absolutly the best thing i EVER did. My a1c before starting on the pump was 8.7 (i think) and my last 3 a1c's have been between 5.7 and 5.9. And...I am not your best diabetic. I eat what i want, when i want. I eat candy bars, ice cream, cake, drink chocolate milk etc. One thing I wont ever do is drink regular soda.
Being on a pump, you count your carb intake, and i do and so far i have been successful.

I have no meal plan, like i stated before I eat what i want. Only advise I can offer...stay away from complex carbs. you can manage BS'er when eating complex, but its a bitch and unpredicatable

Alot of people think your BS'ers go up from just eating the wrong food, not the case. STRESS! LOSE IT. Stress will make your BS'er triple. I was dealing with a contractor last year. I check my BS'er before i drive any vehicle. Before I left work i checked, called this contractor about some concrete work he was doing for me. After a 15 min conversation, alot of yelling back and forth. I rechecked my BS'er and it was 315. THAT is a perfect example of what stress can do to a diabetic

I have 2 patterns set in my pump. One for the winter months and one for summer. I tend to have higher BS'ers in the cooler/colder months.

Exercise is the key. "A body in motion, stays in motion" and that will give you better control

One thing that HAS to be done when a diabetic, CHECK your BS'ers. Yeah yeah, it hurts, but its NOTHING compared to kidney failure. TRUST me. Suck it up and prick your finger.

It can be a pain in the ass having to wear a pump (size of a pager) 24/7. You will get use to it. The only times i take it off is when i go swimming, take a shower, buckle up in the race car and sex. If your single and your worried about what your partner might think, its part of who you are, and if they cant deal with that, that person is not for you.

I have learned to live with diabetes, diabetes doesnt run my life anymore

Yup - nice thing about the pump is you don't have to be too picky about diet. I eat all the normal stuff by stay away from pop with sugar. I'm trying to also stay away from artificial sweeteners as I'm a little worried as to long-term effects of them.

Main thing on the pump is to be diligent with carb counting. Eating out at restaurants with no nutrition information makes it difficult to be accurate. I'll try and stick with low carb options such as salads and such.

I still pound back beers and Jack n' diet here and there, but you have to make sure you check BS's as you can go low.

BWro - sounds like you have a good handle on things, and the right attitude. I try not to let it control me, but sometimes it gets frustrating when sugars are a little high.

#1 thing I've come to realise is you can't estimate what your sugars are, you have to check check check.

I like your attitude I think you and Buck have turned my attitude around 180 degrees when it comes to getting the pump I always looked at the pump as one step closer to falling off the cliff(getting worse)but really itsa a win situation Ill be talkin to my Doc about it Im definetly on board. Today I started up my exercise regimen and can tell you its good for my mind/body,Im with you guys I aint takin this lying down Im going drop kick Diabetes Ass,Ive done it before, and yes stress affects your overall mental/physical being I just lost my job recently and that stress of what going to happen there with money/Medical Benefits not having that structure of getting up everyday not having a positive purpose etc. put me in a temporary funk ,you people got me out.
