What does your overall diet look like? Write down what you eat, (every meal!) and then you can start to make some changes. Or we can potentially help point you in the right direction.
If you're going to be working out, yes, your body is going to need some protein to feed the muscles. You dont need nearly what some stores/people will try to sell you though.

Put on a sweater then a trash bag over the sweater and some sweat pants and work out and sweat a lot, do jumping jacks, pushups, run whatever you want as long as your hearts pumping fast and your sweating. Thats how the guys on the ultimate fighter do it in order to cut weight.

Yes you should be eating or drinking protein. Its really helps if your trying to gain weight or lose weight.. I know that is very contradicting but it helps with whatever results your are trying to achieve. For example if you do workouts to cut your weight (low weight high reps) it helps your body work to your advantage whether losing or gaining weight. Just don't overdo the protein then you could see some potential weight gain.

Now if you want to lose that fat around your core ares you need to pick a diet and stick with it religously. Diet is about 70% of weight lose or gain. To start your workouts you need to do a lot of cardio exercises. The best two are running/walking and swimming. Get your heart rate up and get the sweat going. Then right once your done running hit the deck and start on the push ups, and were not talking doing like 25 a day.. thats weak shit. You need to do burnout sets. That basically means you need to do them until you collapse on the floor.. get a drink of water wait 1-2 minutes then do as many as you can until you collapse on the floor again.. do this until you can not do a single push up anymore. This will work. Try to do push ups only every other day. You need to let your muscles rest for a day or else your entire work out is pointless. RUN EVERY DAY YOU CAN THOUGH

Try the burnout sets on push-ups and let me know how your chest feels the next day.

If you want to take it to the next level check out crossfit training. Just google it. Its a really really good work out. You'll have to get a pullup bar though (can be found at any sporting goods store just about)

sorry bout that. bombed it on MD. back though.

So far this is what I can eat due to my condition (Graves Disease)

"No fish, no seaweed (I'm pissed cause no sushi, don't know when I can), nothing malted." - this is directly from my physician.

For now I'm guessing what I should eat. I can't really eat much dairy, allergies, and eggs, well my throat will swell an I choke to death. Yes I'm serious, was born this way so I'm used to it. I can have dairy but little, I can't gorge on it or else my nose will start to run and my throat gets itchy.

- Mornings, I eat Cinnamon Toast Crunch, it has Vitamin D in it so why not. Sometimes I have it with milk but at most I eat it plain.

- Lunch, this is where I start guessing. I usually eat Subway (Spicy Italian), or have a salad depending on what is available at the house (why is it that when you fart after eating a salad it is VERY RANK). There are times when my older brother/sister is cooking stew, but I keep to the vegetables not much meat.

- Dinner, well that's something I can't really control myself on. Sure I eat a salad or something again, but I get midnight hunger. I try to keep myself from eating ANYTHING after I have eaten my dinner, but I can't help it. I end up either snacking or eating a meal again.

- Drinking, I drink water a lot. I didn't used to. I would drink a lot of fruit drinks; orange juice, apple, etc. I stay away from soda, but there are times when I do drink beer. I keep messing with my head thinking I don't have money for anything (I asked my dad to make his savings account mine so that I don't go "well just this once" with any cash in my account), long story.
It's usually on the weekends that I drink alcohol, at most I keep to less than 4 cans/bottles of beer or a small amount of liquor.
I do smoke pot once in a while, but I don't get hungry, I actually get VERY thirsty all the time. Which brings me to my other condition. lol yeah I'm a cluster fuck of problems.

My hands and feet ALWAYS sweat. Born this way also (I got it from my dad), on my father his hands itch and well yeah. Mine just sweat uncontrollably! Enough so at times I can literally make a fist and sweat will drop out (it's salty). I think this is why I am thirsty all the time. I get dehydrated very fast. I usually drink whatever is around me, at the time (I can't control when the sweat happens), so weather it be soda, water, juice, I don't drink beer cause I just get more worse and I want to puke.

As for my work out, it consists of mainly a couple sets of half push-ups (go up to elbow length then drop quick), a couple of sets that help work on my abs, the shoulders, biceps, and that one muscle behind your biceps. Hopefully I get these names right. I do a little jogging, I still have to work up to all that, the disease took a lot out of me so I am starting from ground zero with most of this.

Eat less, excercise more. Especially work on eating smaller portions. It works better if you eat smaller meals throught the day (4-5 times) rather than three big meals. Less of the unused energy from those big meals will be turned into fat. You will also find that your overall energy level is more even, rahter than passing out after a big lunch.

And focusing weights on any part of your body will not focus where you lose fat. There is no relationship. It doesn't work that way. The fat hides the abs you already have. Doing lots of crunches gives you killer abs buried under fat...

You need to excercise for at least 20 minutes just to burn the glycogen (sugar) stored in your muscles. When you keep going, your body will then switch metabolism to start burning fat, so the longer you can go after 20 mins, the better for fat burning. And you don't even have to push it really hard. Fat burning is actually more efficient at lower intensities (about 130-140 heartbeats per minute, if I recall correctly). Count your pulse for 10 seconds, then multiply by six.

Rather than running, you can try doing stairs. Just walking up flights of stairs, like at an outdoor parking lot, for example, for a half hour will give you a hell of a workout. The longer, the better. This will use large muscles (glutes and quads), which will demand more energy and burn more fat. Building the muscles increases your metabolism, which will in turn help you burn more fat all the time, all over your body.

Once the stairs build some strength and cardio capacity, you can try jogging up every other flight, or just going faster.

Another alternative (or to add variety): ride a bike.
Couldn't have said it better myself.

About a year ago I noticed I gained a lot of weight over the last few years. I weighed 170 lbs and i'm only 5'7" which is borderline overweight for my height. I lost about 20 lbs by just reducing my portions. I eat a good breakfast and lunch and eat a really small dinner with a granola bar for a snack at 10am and one at 3pm. I went from a size 33 waist down to a size 30. I now hover between 147-150 which is a good weight for my height.

When you first try reducing your portions, you will be hungry a lot. Just have to fight it. Eventually within a few weeks your body will get used to it and you won't be hungry anymore. If you get hungry just eat a granola bar and drink some water to get something in your stomach.

I didn't change what I ate at all, I just ate less of it.

The only exercise I do is ride my mountain bike on the weekends and mow grass (8-10 lawns a week).

if your seeing the change while you are lifting, its not weird at all. its called a "pump" basically as you are working out you are forcing more blood with fresh nutrients and oxygen into the muscle bellies to provide them with fuel while undergoing heavy use. its normal.

and yes you should be eating protein. try to get more protein than fat and carb intake. also if you can keep your carbs down or cut them after noon, youll see results sooner. but just like everyones said, you need to watch diet. everything is diet. "spot reducing" fat areas, like abs by wearing a belt, is a myth. you cant. if it were that easy everyone would have a killer set of abs. theres alot of good diets out there. paleo is a good way to drop a few pounds rather quickly and see results. then its a daily commitment to eat right and to eat the right amounts.

try to find a way to have fun while your working out. itll make it time fly by and the happy you are, the more you will push yourself and the more results youll see

just read that you have allergies to dairy. instead of milk try almond milk. its great. dont drop quickly on your pushups. that motion is called a negative and by doing it slowly you are maximizing your workouts. try checking out bodybuilding.com they have great forums on supplements, nutrition, and they also have different workouts that have video and pictures so that you can see step by step how to do the movements.

Well before you start doing exercising and going nuts, check with your doctor first to make sure your healthy enough for the level of exercising you want to do. If something your doing makes you hurt or pain in an area where you shouldn't feel pain, stop and see your doctor.

Disclaimer out of the way, run like a futher mucker. If you honestly want to cut the weight, the gut, and the man jugs, you gotta run. The more aerobic exercises you do the more fat you burn the more weight you lose.

When I was on my honeymoon I actually lost 15lbs, mainly from walking and other physical activities that kept my heart rate up . That was more than a year ago. Since then I gained it all back, but have recently started running A LOT, by A LOT I mean at least 4 days a week varying between 3-6 miles at a time, then go and ride my bike at least 15 miles every day I'm not running. So far I've dropped 30lbs in about 2 months and I'm looking to drop another 50 before July.

I'm serious like a heart attack, you wanna drop the gut and the man boobs run run run. I too HAD man boobs and a gut. They didn't appear over night, so they won't disappear over night, but everything is getting smaller.

If you wanna have a chest when the man boobs are gone, do push ups and lots of them. You can also do fly's. Whatever you do, make sure you do something to balance out your workout. If you spend all your time doing bench press and no time on the shoulders, eventually your pecks will tighten and pull your shoulders forward, so make sure you do something to strength your back and shoulder muscles, lat pulls, pull ups, anything to help keep you back and shoulders strong.

If your going to do some ab work, don't do sit ups, you will destroy your back when you get older. Do crunches, put your feet on a bed or chair and lay on the ground, DON'T put your hands behind your head and interlace your fingers, you will hurt your neck, instead, but your hands on your ears and do your crunches. If you have someone that will work out with your there's a great way to work your lower abs which don't get much action with crunches. Lay on your back and have your partner stand at your head looking at your feet, place your hands on their ankles and lift your legs up together so that your body looks like a 90 degree angle. Have your partner grab your feet and push them straight out, to the side, or at any angle they choose as hard as they can, your job is to keep your feet from touching the ground. It's a great work out and burns a lot.

Just some ideas, there are many more that work wonders these are just a few. I'm sure your friends can help you out a lot if you tell them you really want to loose the man boobs and gut.

I checked with my doctor, she's okay with the workout idea, but I have to keep my heart rate at a norm. Due to my HR being around 150/160 (which is apparently that of a 70 yr. old, yeah I was really in a bad place, hands were twitching like crazy), she just wants me to work myself back TO jogging at the moment. I have to go back this month for another blood test, then 2 months after I am to see my doctor again. I regularly check to see if my HR is going berserk after each workout. Also have one of them travel HR testers.

I tried a little jogging last night, felt if I did it in the afternoon I would die (also I was lazy in the morning, should have done it then). I did a good 2 blocks and was fine, HR was a bit quicker but what do you expect from the jogging. My goal this month is to at least be able to jog a good 4/5 blocks with out getting that side ache.

Thanks guys. I'm really pushing myself to get this done, I'm pretty good on my muscle tone, so I will kind of limit myself on those. Like every other day I workout my muscles concentrating more on my cardio. I got to 24 hr. Fitness and do that stair climb machine, a little on the bikes. I'm a bit scared to push myself and end up back where I was before. My is hurting a little though, I think it's a cold, family has been coughing a lot (first it was my dad, then little nephew (1st one), my mom was somewhat but it's fine now).
As far as food, I'm keeping to basics really. Again thanks a bunch guys, you don't know how much this is helping me. I would have been guessing FOREVER on how to get this done, plus who knows what I would have been doing to myself in the long run.

P90x!!! I just finished day 90, lost 22 pounds, semi cut and feel great. But it is a LOT of work and you must be ready to dedicate 100% to it, if not don't bother starting. The rewards are great and worth it. Buy it from Beachbody, don't get a bootleg, well worth the $$...

All of those programs or as some say Gimicks work, but it is up to you. The are more for structure and give you a plan, you can make up your own plan and you will get results as well.

3500 = a pound of weight...burn more than you intake and you lose weight..

I'm not sure if all of this applies but I'll tell you what I've been doing and see what you can apply to your situation.

Basically I'm 26, 5'11" and weighed about 220 at my max, overweight by a good 40 pounds. Most of my weight gain started when I stopped working in the field for construction and stopped playing organized sports. i have pretty severe asthma, to the point where I can not run or jog, I end up in the god damn hospital. and have had my right shoulder reconstructed due to an ongoing joint issue.

I have a sister who is an athletic trainer and this is what she suggested (knowing me and the fact that I like to eat and have a "salt tooth" instead of a "sweet tooth"

Diet wise, basically switch what you are doing, eat breakfast like a king, whatever you want. lunch should make sense, healthy sandwich, granola bar, and a piece of fruit, and eat dinner like your homeless. NEVER EAT AGAIN AFTER DINNER, this was by far the hardest one for me.

exercise wise, I bike, which is low impact enough to not get my asthma going crazy, and I live in an area with pretty flat terrain. I swim when I can, I live on a river, but it's minnesota so i only get about 4 months of actual use out of that. And I pirated p90x. Now I do not follow the routine of every day, I follow the structure, basically I go in the order you would usually follow, 3 or 4 times a week. Anything that is that much movement for an hour straight will help.

So far I've been at it for about 5 weeks, down to 203, and can feel that I am a hell of a lot stronger than when I started. The goal is to maintain something around 180.

Hope something in this helps

i completed P90X and it was great. Only draw back was you needed sometime of equipment to do it. I am currently doing Insanity and 1 month in. No equipment, all you need is a towel, WATER, and yourself and let me tell you it is a huge difference from P90X. I am not saying P90X does not work, but I am seeing much faster results than i did with P90X. If you buy it, good luck, its pure pain as long as you push yourself and stick with it....once again, PURE PAIN. Oh yea, and when i say you will need a towel, trust me, you will be dripping sweat...and i mean BAD.
