So lately i have been thinking that i won't be able to make a living as a cook, so i was thinking about maybe becoming an officer in the CCG. Is there anyone that can give me some info about the daily chores of an officer in the CCG?

Dont they just pick up the phone and call the US coast guard.. :) Im just kidding I dont know much about it but I feel that it would be a cool job and if your thinking about doing it to go and talk to some in person to see what its about. Good luck if you plan on going that route!

    Hey Andrew:
Not to familiar with the Coast Guard, but am intimately familiar with the Canadian Navy (Yes my American brothers we do have a navy!). We have cooks onboard our ships if that interests you or you can pick another trade. If you are thinking towards a technical trade like RADAR technician and have good marks from school the Forces will pay your tuition, pay you a salary ($31,000 for the first year and then it starts going up) and pay 90% of your room and board to go take a two year technical diploma in St. John's NF. After completing the course you will go to your first ship and will be making approx $63,000. Not bad for two years on the job. If you want to check that out go to Forces.gc.ca All of the trades are featured ther. I am a NESOP and I fire the guns and missiles onboard the frigates. I will be retiring in August and heading back to NB to retire. Good luck and I hope that this info may have been of some use to you.
