I just got some stuff from thefirestore today by fed ex.

Still waiting on two more packages.

I got a Bunker Belt, its pretty nifty going to try it out later, then got a goggle protector.

As far as my bunkers, our department just got issued brand new GLOBE GXTREME jackets and trousers!! New Bullard UST traditional style helmets with Traklite setup. I also got new leather GLOBE bunker boots which are way more comfortable then rubber structure boots. We also got all new SCBA's by Sperian.

Since we are a combination department, no one is issued a certain seat in the apparatus. Pretty much whoever shows up sits in whatevers available. So most of our guys are trained in all the areas.

We are supposed to be getting new gear not to much but some. We are Volly so I grab whatever seat I can.

I live really close to the FD so Im always one of the first if not the first one their.

How do you like the new globe gear besides the boots? I have heard awesome things about the boots, but they are leather I really want rubber so I can just spray'm off and not worry about any hazmat stuff.

 

I really like the new GLOBE gear!! Of course they are still stiffer then crap but a few more calls and they should be all broken in. I agree on the leathers though, they do require a little more maintenance but I got time around the firehouse to work on them when needed.

 

I think we are going with Morning Pride of thats what I heard somewhere down the line lol

 

What happened to feeling a little heavy?

 

2nd year as Training Officer here.

We run Lion bunkers, tan with Yellow reflective.
We have 3 Pumnper-Tankers 86 Pierce, 01 Pierce, and 09 Benz Powered Freightliner Custom with a US Tank. We also run a Station built Custom Jeep grass rig with 110 gal tank and tourrette on the front bumper and joystick for controls inside. And a Draft Truck/Grass Rig with a Big Block Hemi pushing water on a '00 Chevy 2500 flatbed.

we have 28 hooks, and probably 10-12 that actually show up. Rural Michigan Township and a half covering several miles of I-94 (busy stretch between Detroit and Chicago)

Waiting on our order for Genesis Extrication Equipment to come in, the full load, cutters, spreaders, rams everything. And once the EPA figures out how to really fuck up Diesel Engines we'll be buying a new Heavy Rescue to match the Extrication Equip.

I work up here in NH. We have Globe G xtreme gear and globe boots ( they are like wearing sneakers!) Plus you got to have a leather helmet! In my pockets i dont really carry to much. I carry a small backpack with me. It has spare shirts, sweatshirts, hoods gloves and some tools. It all depends on the season whats in it. On the way to the call Ill just grab what I think im going to need for tools out of it. As for were we sit, we rotate. We have 6 guys on shift so we will rotate through driving, in the back and being on the ambulance. I have to say, it is the best job in the world!

 

Is it your off day? Or just waiting for fire? My wife is paramedic and we have lots of friends who are FF. Be careful brother...

 

Just checked, got no pics of the jeep here at work. But I'll snag some tonight at our business meeting or get on quickly at home and post a few from home. It's pretty sweet. Was a Jeep Renegade..I think...but we put a truck bed on it and set the stainless tank in there with the honda pump. It's nice when you get to the truck first, driver gets to sit inside in the AC and fight grass fire while the Officer has to hop out with the shovel or flapper.

I work for Brevard County Fire Rescue in Merritt Island, FL.

I'm on a 75' Sutphen Quint ladder truck. Myself and the other EMT alternate driving and riding backwards every other shift.

 

Captain with local Township Volly Dept. We run a 1981 Ford Pierce as our 2nd due on fires, 1st on car wrecks (we call 'em 10-50's I saw the thread on 10 codes). Our 1st due on fires is a 1989 Mack Firecat, unsynchronized manual. I love that truck! Our brush truck/first responder medical is a 1993 Dodge Ram with the nuclear reactor for power. My God can that thing run. Our ATV is a Kawasaki Mule. That's just at Station 2, my house. Station 1 has a 2001 Pierce that's 1st out on 10-50's and fires, with a 2000 Dodge Ram as the brush/medical. We just got (free) a 1983 Ford box truck, and we've fixed it up to be our squad/command vehicle. We put 8 4500 psi air tanks in the back to fill our SCBA's at a scene, along with a generator, powerbars, 4 cases of water, and other random things we need to make a scene run smoothly.

As far as gear goes, we have a real mix...since we're volunteer in a college town, the new joins get the older stuff, and as you stick around and accrue experience, you get newer stuff. I've been there 5 1/2 years and have Globe stuff (can't remember the particular model). I am a real fan of leather boots, and have Pro-Warrington I bought when I joined. They've held up amazingly well, and use Shelby gloves. I'm on my second helmet (roof collapes suck) and I can tell you the Cairns 1010 Deluxe is a lifesaver. The Streamlight Vantage LED helmet light is absolutely the king of helmet lights. I carry linesman's pliers and a Gerber Hinderer rescue knife in my pockets, along with a folding spanner wrench and a spare can of chew.

 

Roanoke county Va, Hollins Station #5 Volunteer! Ride the Ladder, Box, utility, former engine, Soon to be riding a new 2011 Rescue Pumper!!! ive been volunteering for less than 2 years but love it! trying to get a full time paid job in the process. Just went for my EMT but failed by 3 points on the test goin back for a second go around on the 9th of April. I keep a multi tool knife with belt cutter and glass punch but soon ill get some of the rescue channel locks, i also carry 10ft rope in my pocket for search and rescue if needed.

career guy here, i ride the engine backwards mostly, but if someone calls out or something they can ship me out to another piece in the city, but usually i stay in-house.
as far as stuff in my pockets,
medical gloves
heavy duty mechanix gloves
protech 8 titan gloves (my personal set )
blazefighter gloves (dept issue, spares now)
one of those folding knives with the window punch and seatbelt cutter
wirecutters
small flashlight
some door chocks
spanner wrench
couple sprinkler wedges

our gear is morning pride only, with the ranger rubber boots. they give us the morning pride helmets, but they sit wicked high on your head, so alot of guys buy their own leather helmets, like i just did with mine, cairns n5a new yorker, and i attached a rubber strip with a hole for my flashlight.

but everything aside, carry some wirecutters and a knife in your gear. you need to be able to save yourself, that is paramount

 

Hey ride out of a hose company at Huntington Manor Fire Department, Huntington Station, NY. (Volunteer Fire only) We have Morning Pride defender series gear with the bright old style reflector tape. I've got a multi screw driver, 5-n-1 channel locks, the streamlight vantage and wood door chocks on my helemt, extrication gloves and FF gloves 10' of green webbing. Department just made us put on bailout harnesses and rope bags. Got 3 years in and working on prerequisites for FF2. About to graduate college with degree in Fire Protection Technology, stupid sociology holding me back....
