If it helps... I am 20... and currently a full time college student (3rd year) with 2 part time jobs... no one handed down my truck to me. I make all the payments for my truck AND I pay for all the mods. It's hard work but it's possible :)

I am 16 and bought my own Taco, With my money my parents didn't give me a penny towards it. and I pay for my own insurance and gas

I have been working since I was 14 Real full-time jobs in the summer and part time stuff during the school year. so Yeah I work and I'm a teen I currently work nights about 6 hours a week and run my own tech support business locally where I can charge 35$ an Hr. I work about 0-4 Hours a week at that depending of how many call's I get. Its enough but I really want to save enough for a down payment and find the right income property were the renter would pay my mortgage for me. then I would be able to make some more cash on top. I am away looking for ways to make more money.

Learning what it means to work .. and all that comes with it (like learning to accept and get along with people you don't like) is one of the most important skills you can gain in this life, because work is going to be a part of the next 40 years of your existence. And just like anything else, the routine of work is something you have to practice to get used to doing. So yeah, unless those sports have a solid chance at landing you a college scholarship, I'd start now, even if it means giving one of them up.

My wise old man once said, "There's a reason why they call work 'work' and not 'play'." It's not always fun, not always exciting. For long stretches it may be downright aggravating, dull, boring, or tedious. Every job has it's shit. Every single one. But work is an inevitable and important part of life.

And I'll be honest ... the sooner you get in the workforce, take your lumps, and accept work for what it is, the easier it'll get. For a lot of guys, the longer they wait, the harder it is, because they develop chips on the shoulder, and want to be above it all. So get in there while your still young and pliable. It's not too early to start. Welcome to manhood my friend. LOL it sucks. :) But you got millions of brothers on the journey with you.

I started working in 8th grade with a paper route then into cleaning construction sites then construction work through high school and college. I've been working for 35 years now. There is nothing better (well a couple of things) than paying for something with money you yourself earned and saved.

I started doing yards for the neighbors when I was around 11 made a few bucks.
High School I played football and did track
Then at 15 starting working for a nursery on the weekends. They needed a grunt to load cars. I was pretty strong. The interview went like this. He looked at me asked if I played ball. I said yes he said start Saturday and this was Thursday. I had friend working there. He was a certified nurseymen at 16 but he taught me the fertilizer stuff and I worked my way inside and this is were the commission was. I worked for a hardware store when the nursery closed. Then another nursery moved in and worked evenings in the off season and after school. My senior year I also worked Erosion Control and made good money (about $12 hr in 1988 - 1994 with christmas bonuses) and did this off and on until I was through college.

Good luck I am sure you can find something if you really want to work that will not interfere with school and sports.

I got my first real job at 15 washing dishes at a BBQ place, then shortly after got my job cleaning horse stalls a few months before my 16th birthday. I did that along with another job bussing tables till I started college. Then went jobless till a few months before my 20th birthday when I started running out of money lol.

I had my first vehicle "given" to me although I actually just borrowed it from my dad till I was able to buy my own truck.

I did the exact same thing.

I quit playing Hockey my sophmore year so that I would have time for work.

Except I got a hand-me-down 8yr old honda accord from my dad. I just had to pay for insurance, gas, mods, etc.

I worked full time through college. I made sure I finished school though. I didn't take any semesters off. I actually ended up buying my first house when I was 21 before I finished my bachelor's.

    PRIORITIES PRIORITIES

Unless you go pro, sports aren't going to pay the bills.

If you're college or scholarship bound with any of your sports, consider that over a truck.

I worked about 10 hours a week during the last half of high school. Didn't get a car until the last month of High school. Work hard in the summer.
