Always on this thing. Especially since construction bidding is slow right now.

I work for a community college teaching EMS, First Aid, and CPR/AED to coal miners. I'm currently teaching a First Aid class as part of the Coal Mining Technology degree the college offers.
Coal is HUGE in Southern Illinois, and there is a humongous power plant being purpose built to use the coal that lies across the road and 150 feet down. That's where I am currently teaching. I love this job, and really hope that nothing I teach is ever used. How many instructors can say that?

haha yeah i know what your sayin. but thats very cool. . . im just a college kid at NC State, in my sophomore year. back home ive been a volunteer fireman for 4 or 5 years now so our community college has instructors out there a couple time a year to get us re-certified. . . but that's really interesting about the Coal facility out there. obviously i know how huge coal is to our national power grid, but Illinois isnt the first place that comes to mind haha.

Yeah, I know WV and Pennsylvania come to mind first, but I think we're 4th or 5th in the nation at coal production. 80% of Illinois sits on a coal deposit, thanks to the inland sea that we used to be, and all the vegetation that gradually became coal.

My job is a drag, I am in camp and on call. sometimes i only work for two hours a day other days it's 18 hours but mainly 2-4 hours so if it wasn't for TW i'd go nuts.
I'm paid a flat day rate so it doesn't matter how much i work i get paid the same

Learn all you can, young Padawan...there is much the book never covers when you get out on the street. Guaranteed you'll see a heart rhythm that you have to guess at in the first 6 months of being a medic. Not that they won't teach you right, but there are some people that defy "conventional" atypical heart rhythms.

Good luck. Hit me up if you need anything paramedic related. I may not know Tacoma's that well, but I know para-medicine.

    Sweet!

I gotta go educate the class on CPR/AED usage.
    TIP:
If the patient is screaming "GET OFF ME YOU ASSHOLE!" you may stop CPR at that point.

<---------This guy is back at his teaching gig, and bored outta his skull.

The class average is 70% on the two tests we have taken. I have office hours every Wednesday between the morning and evening session. Only 1 guy has come to me for help. I have explained weekly I'm going to be here, and to come to me for help if there is anything the students don't get. I can't force these folks to study, but it's really frustrating see people nosedive in their grades over simple shit like First Aid.

    *end rant*

Off to go write a test a third grader with Down's syndrome will understand.

The Stig is not affected by such human ailments.

However, I'm able to sleep at night knowing I've given them all the tools to succeed. It's up to the student to pick those tools up and use them.
