Question Type 1 Diabetes and Fire/EMT??

I have a few questions for you Firefighters...


can you be a type 1 diabetic and a Firefighter? I know there are physicals and Im not sure if a type 1 can pass?

hey dude sorry to hear that you were Dx with diabetes. tough shit. i dont know if it is a disqualifier..... i would go to one of the stations around your hometown and talk to the captin, im sure he/she would know.

Hey man. I am also a type on diabetic (insulin dependent). There are laws that protect us from being turned down from a job due to our condition. Id advise you take a look at them.

^Funny you say that, I however have been denied 1 job as a civilian contractor, as well as lost a job indirectly related to my being diabetic. I am not the type to sue over such things but I do feel it is complete Bull Shit.

Lately yes but only because I don't have any health Insurance. After my last job forced me into resigning, I have just been working 2 Part Time jobs without insurance coverage from either. Since Cobra was way too much to maintain so I had to cancel it. Another reason why I am seriously considering this career change. Radiology has become a very flooded field.
