    Hope your in good.....GREAT shape.

I did a test not to long ago, 55 people showed up only 3 made it, I was in #1. I have been training for over a year though.

Don't forget to train for the oral interview, that's the make it or break it part.

Some FD's don't even look at you unless your in one of the highest times done with the physical.

See if you can jump into any more classes,

    like Haz Tech
    Swift water
    Ropes
    High angle

    What if advanced ex?

We just have extraction here, well that and heavy ex like big rigs.

Oregons unemployment is pushing 10% right now, so departments are seeing an increase in applicants. A lot more people who 6 years ago wouldn't have been there are now regulars because they need a job. And figure they can be a ff

Yeah I have taken the Cpat, the academy I'm in right now we do a military type PT every morning for a couple hours. And to explain what Adavanced EX is, I'm not sure, we haven't got that far into the Academy yet. I just know on our sheet it shows "basic Extrication" and "Advanced Extrication" lol could mean as much as basic, try before you pry, then advanced is using jaws etc. Not sure man

Agreed, I don't care where you look other than Texas, employment isn't great right now and won't be for a while.

I don't think Oregon does as well, Oregon does its training through DPSST. I dint know if IFSTA certs are accepted I know a couple friends have had to re do their certs because of this.

That's okay. I'm coming off a 24 hour very long shift with no sleep and very annoying patients.

Sorry guys if I came off short. Didn't mean it to be offensive.

Hmmm interesting, I'm not sure either.

Just so you know the CPAT is *ok*, but I have seen some physicals make the CPAT look like a joke.

Like one department I applied for the physical was decent, then the next department made the past physical look like it was a cake walk.

^ This happens a lot, IFSAC is supposed to be recognized. Most the time you have to re-test though.

unfortunately a lot of guys in the fire service have this ^^ type of attitude, and they try and beat you down when trying to get a job. I went thru this years ago before i gave up on the dream. I am FF1 and Emt-b in texas and the competition is crazy competitive out here too but thats still no reason for people to be assholes. Ignore these haters. good luck on your search.

As of right now we are running 2 miles every morning, doing 4 sets of 50 push ups, sit ups, squats, and crunches. Carrying hose up stairs, dragging a 175lb dummy certain distance, about to start wearing a 75lb vest and getting on the stairmaster next week. I'm all about getting some tips and tricks to help man, let me know

Sorry man. But for the past 6 years I've been trying to get one with a few local departments. For the past 2 I've had good friends get the spot instead of me. Am I frustrated, a little but I was estatic to hear that they get the job. I know I'll get it in the next couple of years!
