Youch. It can also be extremely slippery, with an almost soapy/geasy feel (as you know, I know, just sayin). I suppose you also know that it is California's state rock?

Who else knows what their state rock is?

X2. I like paleontology, but it helps to have a geological background when looking for the fossils

There's a paleontologist at my company who thinks that paleo is the most critical field of study to all mankind (I think he may have forgotten about medicine and metallurgy and electricity and such). He writes like Yoda with a stick up his ass. When you read his pompous shit, you can smell his pipe smoke and feel his tweedy patched-elbow sportscoat.

You don't smoke a pipe, do you Ben?

Mainly civil engineering design, and lots of environmental compliance/remediation. Most of the paleo is just for environmental impact reports for proposed projects.
