I'm wondering why rather than an internet forum... and all that that entails... why this isn't something you should be discussing with your peers; meaning those teachers you work with, have worked with, or those with whom you went to school with to become a teacher? Surely they would be a better resource and provide more substantial advice as this is their field rather than a bunch of strangers. You're an certified education professional; does that not make more sense?

from someone who is still in school, the teachers that lay down the law have the quietest classes. the class clown kid, be a smart ass back to him/her but if it goes to far give the student a referral. the class of smart asses, just give them all referrals... after a while they'll stop.

Note, that the thread was directed to those who are still in school and those who are teachers which there is several on the boards.

I'm have also directed this question to my peers as peers as well. Also being that I just found out today, I'm in a crunch.

Are you basically saying that my question is unprofessional?

Would it be professional for a doctor to ask for advice on an internet forum based on the fact that many of the members may have been patients? Mention this post to some of your teacher friends and colleges and get their reaction.

Regardless of your opinion on the issue. I feel that I have gained valuable insight from several people that contributed from there personal experiences as a teacher,

One of two things will happen...
Things won't change (but it sounds like the rest of the students ignore him so he's just the "class clown" and not a real problem)
He'll take you up on it, and you both may end up enjoying the time.
He's doing it for attention, likely an only child with working parents and his only friend is his iPad.

Give him the attention that he needs and he will mellow out on seeking it at inappropriate times.

Only one way to handle this class....

Watch Gran Torino and learn from Mr Eastwood ;)
