what does "99%" really mean? advice would be great

    so long story short, i have an associates degree in aviation maintenance and my A&P license. on wendesday, i got a call from a contracted staffing company that provides maintenance personnel to an airline. the recruiter said he had to talk to HR and that an entry level spot should be available. yesterday he said he should get the OK today. called this morning and said that his company is 100% on board and signed off on me but the guy who handles the resumes for the airline wasnt in so although they r 99% on me and verbally said they want me to start the 28th, its still not official. i emailed him to ask if there r any areas of the city id be moving to to avoid and he called back to reiterate that its 99% but they still need to get the signature on monday which kinda irked me. im kinda freaking out bc this is the perfect opportunity. so what do you think this "99%" means? help!

    it means chill and wait for Monday... only thing you can do! no worries until he tells you definitely no! The guy wasn't there..

    i know im probably just over reacting but this is almost too good to be true. its good pay, its in a nice area, i get paid training working under veteran mechanics. i read on an employment website that some recriuters will give the 99% bit so that you dont take another offer while theyre still deciding on you. does that actually happen? why would he repeat that its 99%? i think i need a drink... lol

    On the flip side, don't hesitate to look at other jobs while they are deciding.

    As for "perfect opportunity", wait until you are outside on a scissor lift in freezing weather, picking at some lockwire on a tailfin...

    I was told 99%, just waiting for a letter of offer.
    Called 2 days later, told they had one more guy to interview but "it was mine"
    The following Monday, still no offer.

    Monday afternoon, I got a cold call from another company with what seemed like a feeler. I said "Is this a sure enough thing for me to tell Econolite to take a hike when they call this afternoon?"
    The response was "yes, when can you start"

    I was at that company for 10 years before moving to work for one of their suppliers.

    tough stuff. by perfect oppertunity, i mean that there arent many positions available for mechanics with no experience. yesterday morning was when he said that his company was 100% and the other one was 99%, verbally said yes, and that i basically have the job and another airline called to set up an in person appointment but i had to turn them down bc of how sure this guy sounded. looking back maybe i should have said something different but i live in nj, the 99% job is in minnesota and the other airline is in tennessee so i cant spread myself too thin bc id have to be in minnesota next week
