Just curious as to how many IT people are out there. I guess anything IT related doesn't have to be one thing in specific.

I personally am currently working as a deskside tech. Not the guy on the other line when you call that 1-800 number because your internet is down.

Quite a few in here already. There isn't nothing wrong with being the guy on the other end of the phone. Just a lot of people automatically assume that's what you do as soon as you mention IT.

I have actually recently been semi offered a job working for a school district around here. Wasn't real sure how I felt about it at first. Currently working on getting a job with a distribution company as there deskside tech as well. I'd love to work my way up, but like another has mentioned, you have to start somewhere.

I'm Director of Tech Support for a pretty big organization. We support 30,000+ devices, PCs, Macs, iPads, chrome books, servers, network, security, help desk etc. My first job in IT was answering one of those 800 help desk numbers. It's a good place to start and many of the lessons I learned then are still applicable today.

I will be looking for IT work within the next year or so. I m currently the Network Admin (thats the civilian title) for the US Army and I am working toward a Bachelors in Information Tech. / Security.

I am hoping the job market is kind to me when I get out and I am able to land a networking gig somewhere. I love Cisco routers and switches but haven't had very much experience with servers and the like.

I'm a one man show, jack of all trades, IT guy for a 50+ user company with 3 locations and an off-site data center. It sucks at times but it is the best job I've ever had in the 20 years I've been doing IT work.
