30 min to glance in a lunch box or a carry-on? I know places that make you walk a certain path for entry or exit with cameras on & LP watching or limit the size of what you bring in. Sounds extreme but the way of the world today. Cannot say they are my favorite company at all. I try to spend my $ local to keep the lights on for those in my community.

Hmmm, not sure what the employer pool is in Lebanon but, I would venture to guess that Amazon is one of the top employers to work for.
The good news is that other local employers will take note and sharpen their pencils as far as benefits, wages, etc. in order to be competitive in the job market.

I remember a bit of this now.

Can't speak for Amazon, but in my experience - yes. I don't believe they should be compensated longer than drive time plus 15 minutes, though, since testing only takes 30 seconds. IF you have to "wait until you can pee" for 4 hours at the testing site then by no means should you be paid for that since you are not making any money.

A lot of companies take advantage of their employees. Nothing new.

I am forced to clock an hour off for dinner if I work more than 11 hours, even if I don't get dinner or an hour break. My company screams they must adhere to CA Labor Laws, and I get that, but all of a sudden they aren't paying attention if us employees actually get to use that break.

Weird. A few of my cousins have worked for the Amazon warehouse in Chattanooga, TN and I'll have to ask, but they never mentioned anything like that. Don't think they do them there

It always astounds me when I hear stuff like this from CA ? I'm a market level mgr with about 50 employees across SoCal and my company is extremely sensitive to CA labor laws to the extent that our time lock software was written around it and I am personally held accountable to ensure all laws are followed. I have to write up my employees of they don't follow CA labor laws too. In my company if that happened I would be fired instantly.

Edit - btw CA labor laws specify a 1o min paid break and a 30 min lunch break for every 4:59 mins on the clock. If you are working an 11 hr day you should be given 2 lunches.

Do you work for a small company or what? Never worked for anybody large or small that took the labor code as a mere suggestion.

From my military career to self employment and working many 11+ hour days, I never received nor took 2 lunches for myself.
Funny how perspective/wants changes when you work on someone else's dime.

I dont think many Labor Law's force any employer to provide meals/breaks, paid or unpaid.

Having worked at Amazon it doesnt really take that long  I worked at 2 different warehouses including a 1 million sq ft one that had plenty of employees.. The part that pisses people off most is that they say you have to work until your break starts. Well it takes 5+ minutes to get from your area to the break room. Then you have to be working when your break ends so 5+ minutes to get back. So you get to sit down for 5 minutes... Sucks when you are working 10-12 hour shifts and have 2 15s and a 30..

I had this problem at a former job, but it was a 2 minute walk. Sounds like you needed a bicycle. :)

Glad you didn't have 10 minute breaks.

Asking me? I work for Warner Bros. Very big co.

Funny cause like other big companies, there is a very big amount of wasted resources/money, yet they are so thrifty when it comes time to payroll, which is one of the biggest overhead expenses.

LOL, sounds a lot like eating in the mess hall when I was in Basic. We were always lined up alphabetically so the early letters got the full 30 minutes to eat but by the time I got in the door the drill sergeants were already yelling at us to get back outside to formation. I had to start eating in the serving line if I had any hopes of finishing my meal.

Any person this afraid of losing their job is not worth employing, these are hourly employees meaning paid for hours worked. Amazon could easily search these people before clocking out.
If Amazon is the business giant reported they should have no problem footing the bill.

Rights can be limited when you agree to the restrictions, so taking a job, clocking in, etc..

Here is our rules. By working here you are under our umbrella. You can leave if this is a problem.

Question. Do people who work in federal buildings or courthouses get paid when they get screened? I believe Boeing employees also get screened, not sure if they are paid. I'll ask and find out. I do know lots of other companies screen their employees, I'm not sure if they get paid.
