So after being on the site for a while, I'm really realizing how many of you damned engineers there are out there.... Ok ok, this includes myself.

So it got me thinking, I wonder how many there really are out there, and what you got your degree in, and if you use it now.

It's pretty common to work as something different as you were "trained" (term used loosely) in school. We have mechanical working as electrical, civil working as process, etc.

So I decided to create a poll. What degree did you get in school? Go ahead and answer the poll, but also leave some comments on what you do now. I know I'm curious, so others out there have to be too!

I'll start... I'm a mechanical engineering major with physics minor, but I work as a combustion engineer.

A German minor on top of a civil degree, well done. So I'm assuming you spent some time in Germany for the degree?

Retail site design and development eh... That sounds pretty interesting. I'm sure you travel quite a bit for that one!

I took four years of German in high school, "studied" abroad in germany for about a month and a half, and then transferred my credits and took a few courses at OSU to get the minor. As for site design and development, much of the work my company does is in the Portland, OR and Vancouver, WA area so we actually don't travel too often. Mostly I play office gopher in my cubicle. :pccoffee:

Hey, I'm right with you with the office gopher for the most part. We do get some unique travel opportunities with my company, but those are only every couple of months or so (honestly, that's the perfect amount of travel for me). I work in the combustion industry (flares, burners, incinerators, etc.).

Too poor to list anything interesting.
Where would someone with an audio engineer background fit in with that poll?

Damn!! I ALMOST put that in there too as a separate field. Looks like I may need to modify it. I was going to put Audio and Electronics. I guess you can do electrical for now???

I know there are some vessel manufacturers on your side of the state that use compress and fea. I'm sure you guys have an awesome career fair though that will hook you up.

I think I should definitely add this to the pole!! I am an engineer, but doesn't mean I don't do my share of redneck work. I am an okie after all!

I design roadways (with related drainage, utilities etc) but also do the construction management for our office, so I see a wide variety of roadways, utilities, land development, storm/drainage, structures (bridges), environmental and electrical (street lights, signals).
I like the variety and also the fact that I don't have to be in the office all day - I spend a good amount of time outside on site.

I am currently working on design of a new 2-mile roadway, 3 separate roundabouts, some resurfacing projects and a design-build utility installation project.
