Glock and lefties

I remember my partner was a lefty and occasionally when he closed the car door the magazine would release and pop out. Anyone have this problem and how do you deal with it?

you being a LEO and not in CommunistFornia, i'd say get a Gen4 Glock for its ambidextrous magazine release.

May be off topic but what does NYPD issue these days? Glock 21 or 22? Just curious...

I'm out for a few years now but 9MM only. Glock 19, Sig, S&W and maybe one more choice.

I'm a righty. Just relaying what I saw frequently when the car door would hit the side of the drivers Glock.

I'm a lefty and carry a Glock, I've never had any issue like this. Heck, I don't think I could make it happened if I tried...

Lefty, Glock 22, 27, 10 years never had nor have I ever heard of that happening. I don't even know how you could duplicate that. Sounds like perhaps a holster issue coupled with 30+ lbs. over-weight? That's all I could come up with.

And what would an ambidextrous safety solve? If anything that would only exacerbate his problem.

Im a southpaw. That's why I go out the window. I used to use an ankle strap but be dammed if I could go over 45mph. You could leave it on the passenger seat they walk around and get it out!

If he's a LEO, even in Commiefornia he can buy an off-roster handgun for work or personal use.

The problem is, his department may not allow the Gen-4 to be used for primary duty carry. Some departments dictate a specific gun and BUG, some allow any BUG, and some allow any primary from a list.

Was it on the same firearm or different ones? If it was the same gun, maybe there was an internal issue with the magazine seating properly. If it happened on several guns, could it be your partner just had a bad habit of not properly securing the magazine in the gun? I've never hear of that happening before either.

Civilians in CA can buy Gen 4's.

Look up 'single shot exemption'.

True dat.

But in some counties it may not be possible to list it on your LTC.

Buy a new holster, problem fixed. I have several holsters and the mag release is exposed. I tried purposely TRYING to get my mag to release by attempting to depress the mag release up against a hard surface like a wall and have not been able to do it.

Bottom line, you have faulty equipment. I certainly wouldn't be rolling around with equipment that caused a malfunction on my handgun, but I'm weird like that.

I think what he should to is speak with the armorer, and there should be one trained by Glock that deals with the service guns, and have the gun and holster checked. I've done the Glock training at the Shot Show so it is available to your Dept. I would hope the weapon is secured in a holster that encases the gun well. In these cases it's CYA because if something bad were to happen that's bad the first question will be "How long has this been going on and why didn't you have it checked out??

My old patrol unit was a chevy x-cab 4x4, I'm tall so I put the seat all the way back and then reclined it a little. This positioned my holter just behind the door stop. I traced it down to the extruded part of the door stop as I slid in to the seat. My new unit is a Ford supercrew 4x4. Lots of room easy in and out. Have not had it happen since the new unit. FWIW.
