LEOs and the military

Why do some LEOs seem to go out their way to mess with the military?
We are doing the same thing. Protecting this country from those who want to cause chaos.

Spent 20 years in the military and every where I was stationed a base sticker was a magnet for a traffic stop and a sure ticket.

They go both ways

I have had both ends of that spectrum. Been let out of some tickets at times, and then one LEO said he needed a "'valid ID', something with an address" when I handed him my military ID... and then wrote me and my girlfriend a ticket for being in the park after dark...

I know very few officers who go out of their way and WANT to give people in the military tickets

maybe it's you?

Only ticket I ever have received since I was in the military was on base itself. I have been let out of numerous tickets (usually 5-10 over). Usually, they just don't want to mess with me since I have Kansas tags, Kansas insurance and an Oregon drivers license. Plus, my dad used to be a Sheriff in Oregon so I am able to talk to them without a problem.

Stop speeding on base Haslefre and youll be fine!

I got a ticket off base once for 15 over and told cop it was b/c my radar detector didnt go off in time. Yea i was being a dick and yes it was all my fault. But then again I got out of 2 tickets back home in VA within an hour of each other b/c they saw my id.

i wouldnt say it is a magnet. a military town is just that a military town... a small area with a lot of military members in it. maybe they would get pulled over a lot because they make up the majority of the population. for example i have been stationed in san diego and now in jacksonville nc... san diego has like 7 bases in san diego county and jacksonville is like 90% military.... i have been pulled over in san diego on my sport bike and let go without showing id he saw my base decal on my chain guard and told me to slow down.. i never show anyone my id or tell them i am a marine unless they ask... if i was a cop and pulled someone over for anything and the first thing they said was hey i am in the military or showed me their military id instead of their liscense i would give them a ticket also... being in the military doesnt mean that you are above the law... and i think that is something that a lot of people think now a days...just my .02 cents

hu? Some of my best friends had to go on active duty. I don't know of any of our officers who don't cut breaks to anyone in the military...except of course the guys who are in or were in the military. They are usually harder on the military guys then anyone. My old partner before it became a dog) when I was in tac used to be in the marines. I used to leave it up to him and he was always hard on military personell. dk why. My other partner is on active duty with the army right now. he's been deployed for the past 5 years, he was the same way...never did understand it?? But he is up there in rank i think full bird status and he knew everyone to call...could not figure it out for the life of me

Military ARE primary targets in VA. They are pretty serious about speed on 64/264/464. Just not enough cops to get all of us

alot of cops here on the highways would ticket thier own mothers and have. Me personally I don't write alot of tickets, so why would I intentionally bang someone in the military.

I wasn't speeding on base actually. Douche's said I went by the theatre going 40. We both know we don't drive by the theatre on our way out of work (old building). So, I ended up fighting it and got it taken off my record.

Wait, did you just said that a police officer that you work with is a full bird Colonel in the Reserves/NG?

That doesn't make a lot of sense...

For the record, I've been pullover for speeding at least 20 times. Never a ticket, and only three written warnings. Be courteous and truthful to COP goes A LONG way...

I don't necessarily agree. In an area with a high military demographic it might seem that way (like on Oahu) but I haven't ever heard any maliciousness towards military and I got let off fairly easy when I was home on leave last winter. Depends on your demeanor and the offense like a lot of stuff.

On the opposite end of the spectrum you have to admit that military personnel do have a tendency to get a little wild sometime and that can draw extra attention from local LE at times.

He was a Lt. colonel when he was activated this last time..Last time I talked to him was about 2 years ago and he was walking out of the pentagon. I'm somewhat sure he's been promoted since then. He has a bet going with me that he will be a general by the time he retires. I laughed and took his bet. he's a great guy fast aas hell in foot pursuits on the street. he used to play college football at fl. A&M. great dude. His favorite saying to someone that was arrested was " see thats what a third grade education will get ya" funny as hell.

Former college football player, and Lt. Col in the Reserves. He must be an impressive individual, no doubt.

He's the best dude. Right before he left we got in a shoot out together with some idiots in a stolen car. Unfortunatly he was unable to testify in the guy's trial that he shot but I did and called him to let him know his guy got 2 25 year terms.. so i'm sure he got a chuckle out of it.
