Interior lighting does not light up

I just purchased a 2007 prerunner which i look forward to enjoying for many years, but it is dark inside at night. For a short period of time the interior light would come on slowly from dim to bright every time i opened the door. But it does not do that anymore. Have i changed a setting without realizing it or does something need to be reprogramed.
