Blacking out tails question

trying to black out my tails but I don't want to black out the back up light part.
In the past I have tried to tape up parts that I don't want to have painted but the paint always seems to seep through some under the tape (enough to notice) and with the way the back up light is formed well yeah. Any tips/tricks you guys use?
