Kragen 7" HID off road lights, need relay help

I just purchased a pair of Kragen/O'Reilly's 7" HID off road lights. Instructions show wiring without a relay. I purchased a 30 amp relay with 4 terminals. My question is....do i wire in the relay in place of the switch per instructions, then wire from relay to switch? Also, what type of switch should I be looking to buy, 3 terminal or 4 terminal on back? I am sure this is a simple process, however I am not that great at anything electrical that involves common sense. If anybody can put this in layman terms, step-by-step, that would be great. Thank you in advance.

You dont really need a relay. The instrctions do not show one so I wouldnt worry about it.

Check out my lights and see if there the same. I didnt use a relay, just straight from the battery to a switch and then to the lights. I tried relays and within a week, 3 of the four lights burnt out.

relays should prevent that. did you do it right or wrong?

you could burn up your switches if you dont use relays

relays are used in high amp situations to not burn up a switch..hids are pretty low amp.

Thanks everybody for all of the info, very useful. I guess, if the instructions dont show using a relay in its wire-up, then it should be covered under warranty if they fry. I will omit the relay and wire as per instructions. Thanks again guys, really appreciate it. T

I wired the relays in correct, ive been wiring for years. i used two relays from autozone, i think that was the problem. I would sujest splitting your lights into more than one switch. Like inner lights on one switch and outers on another.

A relay is so all the power to the lights doesn't need to run through the switch inside your cab. My Hella 4000 100 watt lights (2 = 200 watts) used a wire harness that included a relay. My Kragen HID 35 watt lights (2 = 70 watts) wire harness did not need a relay. I now have all 4 lights, and using the two seperate switches and one relay to the Hellas. Works perfect... Now that I had the Hellas converted to 35 watt HIDs, I am still using the relay wire harness.. still works the same.

Blue= Kragen HID Euros (driving)
Red= Hella HID Pencils (spots)

I dont mind you asking at all. I paid 134.00 per lamp. I saw a better deal on Ebay (99.00) per, but the person had a low feedback score. I didnt want to risk getting burned.

I have been looking at your GB all morning... I just really really should not do it right now... Spent way too much for this month and the next already! Hope you can still come up with something similar after New Year!...
