LED strobes on ebay for $16 -- why so cheap??

I came across these LED strobe lights that I want to put inside my lower grille:

Does anyone know why they are so inexpensive? Are they not very bright? Are they gonna burn out quick? Are they not weatherproof? Why so cheap?

I don't mind dropping the $16 even if they turn out to be shit ... I just wouldn't want to go thru the trouble of mounting them if they are.

There are also a boatload of other similar ones from other sellers that are similarly priced.

 

If you are not a LEO I wouldn't do it or your asking to be pulled from your truck at gun point.

 

I have seen a few of these sets on trucks and i dont really care for them but that is my opinion, they are not the brightest in the world and most are coming outta china and are hit and miss on how water proof they are.

 

a friend of mine was starting a little snow removal company and ask me if i could install some white and amber strobes so i found these, installed them and theyre pretty small and not very bright.. like u couldnt really even notice them during the day. cant say those r def them but they look identical. cheap control box.. just not a very effective strobe system lol

 

Right on. These would be to supplement a light bar I have for the roof, so I guess they don't have to be super bright. I just want them to last long enough to make them worth installing.

I had wheelen hideaway non-LED strobes but the power supply went tits up, so I'm looking for a decent replacement that won't break the bank.

I want to run something similar to these in my lower grille in front and a set in back in the space between the bottom of my tailgate and the top of my bumper.

 

they are not bad lights. we have some blue on are rhino.(just for fun and we turn them on when we are on the trails sometimes) they are pretty bright too. had them on like a year. and they still work just like they did the night we put them on.

Don't do it.... My buddy had them on his truck for FD and they are not bright in the day and break and let moisture in... They're cheap for a reason (Damn Japs lol jk).... If you want something thatll last or for your money just go to like NAPA or somewhere and but a cheap amber rotator that is a cigarette plug.

 

i agree for what the op wants them for. i know the blue is kinda bright. (i think for what they at least)

 

these would be nice as rear dust lamps.
but at 2" long each, they are pretty small

 

So I ended up buying these cheapo strobes and weatherproofed them with silicone. Just installed em, here's the worlds shortest video clip (sorry my camera ran out of memory almost the instant I started recording -- but you get the idea).

They are pretty weak in daylight, but are ok in low light conditions.

Can anyone recommend some more powerful LED strobes like these that won't break the budget?

 

Those would be kinda cool for additional backup attentionplease lights or rear fogs instead of regular blinkers maybe...........

JLee, I am not sure about other states but in Alabama, you may have them for "offroad purposes only". This means you can uses them out in the woods, on a trail, car shows, even in public, but you must be sitting still, say in a parking lot. Back in the day, on saturday nights me and my buddies from high school would hang around town til the small hours of the morning, police just go by and make sure we weren't doing anything stupid. Even had them on when they'd go by...no big deal. The unlawfull use of these types of lights is when you are driving your truck on a state of rightaway (road) with them on. That is where you could get an arrest worthy charge of impersonating a law enforcement officer.

Ben...my guess as to the inexpensive cost of the lights is that they were produced in high volume amounts at a cheap cost and most likely done over seas, china as a hypothesis, I'd bet 10 bucks on it. I would come to think they are cheaply made and while they may work for awhile they would crack under climate changes, (winter, summer), burn out, or worse yet "cheap wiring" and short out. If you do go with these, I'd make sure a inline fuse was in my wiring diagram. P.S. I've been wanting to install some white strobes in my reverse lights, all the times i've put these on my cars and trucks I go to advanced and they always have them in stock. Think the last pair I put in was the headlights of my Camaro. They were about 40 bucks, fairly bright, easy to install and were well made. regardless of your choice, good luck!
