9005 foglights

I noticed that the 9005 lights had similar tabs as the stock 9145 bulb. I figured they would be a little brighter because they do not have the painted end cap. I bought a set of silver star ultras. Turns out they are real close but not perfect. One of the mounting tabs have to be trimmed on the bulb. After I did that they went in and plugged up with no problem. Waaay brighter. Just thought I would share that if you want brighter fogs!

 

How's the 9005 bulbs working out? Any probs since installing? ie: lens melting, water leaks, wires melting, etc... I'm very interested in trying this setup on my 2010. Thanks.

 

Everything is great! No adverse affects. One of the best mods I have done!

 

Except the lack of painted tips is blinding other drivers and neutralizing the beam pattern of the fog light reflector.

 

Pretty sure that black paint isnt doing much...

It is shielding the filament from direct view of oncoming traffic.
Exactly the same reason your headlights have chrome caps in the middle.

The 9005 is intended to be used as a high beam and not used when there is other traffic in front of you.

Don't be surprised if you get pulled over for it.
