Lightbulb Vision-x 4'' Flood Light Review

This is a thread in which i will keep a running review on the Vision-x 4'' flood light.

Background:
There is a ton of talk on forward facing lights, but very little on flood lighting. I've seen and used a lot of different flood lights on vehicles over the years. most of which are very dissapointing, which in the past, has lead me to use a driving light instead. while the output of a driving light is good, their focal point and short distance spread leaves something to be disired. after lots of digging, i think i may have found one that will work well, and be able to play with the big boy flood lights ($200/light range).

Cost: $25-$30

Specs:
-beam: flood
-bulb: 100w halogen (HID compatable)
-output: 1800 lumens
-lense dimensions: 4''x4''
-housing dimensions around lense: 4.75''x4.75''
-housing depth: 5.50''
-rear housing dimensions: 3.75''x3.75''
-height with mount: 6'' with the included antiswivel pad

included with purchase:
-1 lights
-waterproof plug
-stainless mounting hardware
-2 extra screws that hold the housing together
-2 extra rubber o-rings that seal the holes for the screws
-2 adheasive antiswivel pads (think grip tape like the top of a skateboard, just thicker)
-wiring instructions (lol)

cheap for a brand name light, and the initial test in my living room yeilds good results.

vision-x website http://www.visionxusa.com/

the light on their site http://www.visionxusa.com/Halogen-4410/c28_45/index.html

buy it on amazon http://www.amazon.com/Vision-VX-4411-Halogen-Horizontal-Flood/dp/B0029ZE7YO/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1332371516&sr=8-12

Vision-x offeres the same light in an HID version, and say that the housings are the same in case one would like to upgrade. while the 100w halogen bulb is quite bright, i have a bunch of spare HID stuff sitting around, so i will see if i can fit a slim balast kit inside the housing. for refference, their HID version goes for $200.

Thanks for doing a review on these. I'm in the market for these kind of lights.

No problem, Rodrigo.
hoping to get it on the truck this weekend, and will report back as soon as that happens. just have to weld another tab onto my bed rack real quick.

Update

recieved a couple questions on size. the dimensions alone make the lights size hard to visualize.

here are some pictures or it in comparison to a 7'' kragen HID, as well as a standard size license plate.

and here it is all mounted up. just welded an extra light tab i had laying around to the bed rack. it's not wired up yet, but i'll rig it to a spare battery and get a night shot of it later.

yeah, i couldn't resist trying it for that price. vision-x stuff usually starts around $200, and goes all of the way up to rigid industries level prices.

wasn't completely dark at the time of the test, but it gives you an idea. it's aimed way too high at the moment.

spread is probaby about 15 feet.

off

on

off

on

note: in the second "on off" pair of pictures, you can see it's lighting up the house across the street, so when aimed properly, i'm hoping it will illuminate from directly behind the truck to across the street, with the width seen in the photos.

i will still try fitting the HID kit into it once i find all of the parts, but until then, i'm very happy with the initial test. light output was very noticable even before dark, so i imagine it will only be better when actually dark.
