High Beams always on after retrofit

Okay so firstly when I switch to my highs on my switch the bulbs dont change, the sheilds open though. And Ive been flashed a couple times on the road so I know the highs are always on. Ive tried switching the wires that go into the OEM harness in every possible way, but the high beams are always on. Ive checked the fuses, and honestly im no electrical wizard so I have no clue what else to do any help would be appreciated!

 

Anyone have any ideas?

 

did you go with an aftermarket harness from trs?

did you check those connections?

are you saying your shields are stuck up constantly even when you supposedly disable them?

it could be one of many things, what projectors do you have what harness do you have and pics of the cutoff would be helpful as sometimes the shields can get stuck in the open position if they get jostled good enough during installation shipping or even driving.

 

i would say its probably a connection problem between your new aftermarket harness and you projectors/ballasts. double check those connections man its probably something simple.

 

Yes I have the after market harness from Trs. The shields are definitely not stuck open when I test it it's always dark enough to see the light on the garage. If I mess with the wire placement that goes into the OEM harness(high,low,ground) then sometimes the shield wont open depending how I had it wired. There is a high AND low beam right? Not just one?

 

I don't have the relay from Trs though. I don't know if that could be it but them again I have no clue what relay I'd need

 

try and take some pictures of the connections between the harness and your ballast see if we can figure this out.

what harness did you pick up from trs the hd relay or the canbus?

 

Relay harness? I don't have one. Just the OEM relay for now. Is that my answer?

 

There has been at least one incident of the OEM dimmer relay (high beam/ low beam) sticking in high. In that case, the owner of the truck was able to unstick it by giving it a whack with a screwdriver handle. You might try that unscientific approach before going any further, it's fast and cheap.

Get Hans some pictures of the harnesses and let him help you. He seems to know his shit pretty well when it comes to HIDs. I am pretty good with electrical, but know nothing about HID kits.

 

what type of projector did you go with? if you have a single xenon projector like the s2000 then yes you would only have a low beam but, i doubt you would confuse that as the high beam.

if its a connection issue like your saying the harnesses can be faulty from trs i got one myself. i also have received the wrong harness altogether from them on one occasion.

if i where you at this point i would call trs talk to andrew or matt and let them walk you through the connections its as simple as following the wires on the harness to their connections and relaying the info to them.

you haven't replied in this thread in a few days so with any luck it was something simple and you figured it out.

 

Ok what kind of bulbs did you get?

THe issues does not sound to be with your projector itself. It is doing its job as intended so no issues there.

Now our trucks use a factory dual filimant headlight bulb, now for your HID bulb to emulate that it will have a second small filiment bulb attatched that turns on when you switch to high beams.

If your bulb looks like this then yours will not change light out put when you hit the switch, you will just have an "increased amount of light when the shield raises.

The second bulb i linked too is more commonly used in non projector HID kits so you retain your "Hi-Beams"


Now if you keep getting flashed it sounds like you need to adjust how your projectors are angled.

I know it was long but lots of info out there to try and simplify.

 

My bulb does look like that one. Has a little 'tube' running Down beside the bulb. It just doesn't make sense to me. I've readjusted the projectors to have the cutoff line at or below what would be a 'level cut off'. As in they are at most parallel or lower to the road. I low the out put of these lights it's just every time I pass a car at night I feel like I'm blinding the living hell out of them. Can you post a pic of a bulb that would have a high and a low? And I got h1s if that helps any.

Ok thats your issue.


Easiest way to explain this. Your normal bulb before HID was a dual filament bulb, we shall call this the two phase bulb. Now your new HID bulb is what we will call a single phase bulb, no high beam effect, thats what the projector is designed to do.

Does your projector have a limiting shield inside that moves when you turn on your HIGH Beams?


IF so what you need to do is adjust the projectors on LEVEL ground against a WALL at NIGHT or close too it.

EDIT: sidenote, from the HIDPLANET website forums, there seems to be word out there that the minimorimotos are notorious for the shields sticking. Something to be mindful of.

 

In this picture, the projector on the left, the metal "FLAP" that is what creates your high beam, it moves allowing more Light to pass by creating more light output out of your headlights.

 

Okay thanks man. What would be a dual phase bulb? Could I just simply put one in? I've also aimed the projectors against my garage at night so that they are at the very highest, level to the ground. I'll take a look at the link you posted though!

 

Thats the thing though, you wouldnt want the dual phase bulbs in your setup, because you should have your high beam power wires run to the motors in the projectors themselves and thats what creates your high beam, is the moving shield.
