Here is a write up that I just did a few moments ago on my Piaa 80 recing series lights.

They will fit behind your grill but what is great about them in they have both a high and low beam. This works out great if you are off roading and are following someone. You can still use the lights but not blind the person in front of you. They come stock with a 95 watt low beam/135 watt high beam but the new replacement bulbs are even brighter at 100 watt low beam/150 watt high beam. These lights are very durable too and Piaa has excellent warranty service. I didn't put them behind my grill on my truck because I didn't want them mounted there but here is what they look like.

4 hella lights are ok. Going with led bar instead. But the light bar behind the grill is the way to go.

Jimminy Christmas, your truck looks like my trucks twin even down to the rims. It also looks like you off roading in the mountains of San Diego, which is my old stomping grounds.

Great minds think alike. Or so they say. They are just cheap hella 500's converted with some cheap hids. I have 4 Lightforce 170's still sitting in a box I was going to use but probably going to go led.

Not San Diego. I wish I was down there again. That is a fire road between palmdale and santa clarita. Rowher flats to be exact. I like the bar out front too. Friend has that setup as well.

Yes and I think yes. The 55w hid kit from ddm claims 5000 lumens. The led's will have a lower amp draw, and assuming the lights are switched individually, he can choose different lighting levels and beams. 4 55w would draw 18.33 amps, the LED's he has (I think blitzpro) will draw 12.5. Lumen output isn't the only thing to consider when buying lights, and IMO isn't the most important factor. I think lux @ distance is a better way to choose a light.

So thank you for all the advice but of course I didn't listen haha. I went with 3 7'' 55w bling lights on a bamf. looks awesome. Ill take a pic of them on tonite. They make hid kits for like $80 bucks for them so maybe down the road

looks good man, hey for less than $80, you could toss three of these bad boys in there, as long as none of the hot wires gets too warm, you may find these can handle your needs as good as the HID's can.

ok, a lot depends on how you wire it together, did you run three hot wires (one from each of the lights), back to the relay or did you tie all three together back to one wire (that then), goes to the relay? 3 130 watt bulbs on a single wire (16GA which is probably what your kits came with), is probably not going to be able to handle all that juice with out melting.
Also, it could overheat the hot wire that goes (from your battery), to your relay as well.
Crap, after I posted this, I realized that one relay would not be enough for three 130w bulbs (3 X 130 (watts) = 390 (watts) divided by 12 (volts of your system) = 32.5 amps, if it's a 30 amp relay and less than 30 amp fuse it won't work.
Ok, not trying to make your life more complicated but those bulbs make a huge difference. Either save you pennies for the HIDs or wire two of the hot leads (from the lights), to one relay (meaning the two hot wires do not tie together into one wire), and add a second relay and fuse and wire the last light to that, You can share the switch wire no problem and tie the relay's ground wire into the same ones that you used for the first relay.

You may want one larger gauge wire feeding 3 relays, and activate those relays with a separate relay. Ahh this is why I love LEDs. Such low amperage.

I have 520 watts blasting out of the grill on two 30 amp relays wired from stem to stern with 14GA wire, everything, hots from the battery (2 of them), individual leads from each light all the way back to the relays, grounds, everything. I have the relays sharing one set of wires back to the switch in the cab. He may be ok with the 16's if he runs individual leads back to the relays (from the lights),and a new lead (from the battery), for the second relay. The ONLY way to tell for sure is to wire it up that way, fire everything up with the engine running and feel all the hot leads to see if they start getting too warm.

Hey acdronin,

I'm getting ready to wire up two of the same blinglights as the previous poster. I was thinking of going with 100w bulbs instead of the 130w you posted a link to. I'm going to be running the harness that came with them (don't remember the gauge) and I'm wondering if the harness will handle the extra current?? I don't believe the harness has two separate wires to be run to the relay - I think they tie together into one. Come to think of it, I don't remember even seeing a relay with the original harness. If there's not, I'll be putting my own in. I'm also running them to a seperate Blue Sea fuse panel I installed under the hood. So, what's the highest wattage/current you can run with the correct gauge wire??
