Welllll not actually. You can not run DC through a transformer. (well you can but all you will get out of it is smoke) You have to convert it to AC, run it through the transformer to step it up, then through a rectifyer to change it back to DC. Just get the GE Q4631s, they run off 12 volts and they are 50 watts more than the H3s you mentioned. Just need some heavy wire because they are going to draw 20 amps for each bulb.

Think about your basic electicity. You don't get something for nothing. Yes stepping up the voltage on the secondary side will reduce the current draw BUT to get 24 volts at 16.66 amps out the secondary, when you put in HALF the voltage on the primary, you will have to DOUBLE the current into the primary. BUT you still have to run the DC through an inverter to get the AC that you will need to run through the transformer.

    .
So if I am correct here, I can run those on a 12 volt system right?, it would just be a tad bit dimmer?

EDIT: Nevermind, read your post above:)

Those are sealed beams, look like they might fit into my Hella 500 housings. IDK.

Yeah as I researched it I found all that out, kinda complicated but doable for an insane person (like me). Four spots are the way to go IMO, LED's just don't compare with the throw of good, big reflectors. When you want to see WAY THE HELL DOWN THE ROAD and all the way from side to side. What you're looking for is the same thing I'm lookin for, movement and the reflection of animal eyes.

Haven't had a problem myself, but our max here is 70mph.

However, I did get myself a small 2 point buck this year with the fender of our ambulance, so I know exactly what you're talking about when you say there's only one thing on their mind. And god damn are they dopey around that time.
