EBAY/ IKEA LED Strip(s) 120v -> 12v Resistor?

I got ahold of some LED light strips from IKEA. These are the water proof RGB flexible ones in white. These are the same things being sold on EBAY for $12 for 5m stripe.

Ok, so I ordered a few rolls of the BLACK PCB versions from ebay/ china and if a few weeks will be getting a knock at the door.

Right now, I have the IKEA ones that are 12v, but have the 120v adapter. I am going to hard wire these up as bed lights, under carriage, wheel well, and hood lights.

What type of resister do I need to use to safely hard wire these in?

Output on the power supply is 12v 5Watts Max.

 

If they're meant to run off of a 12 volt system, I don't see why you would need a resistor.

 

Don't see why you would need one just make sure the polarity is correct. If you check the no load output of the wall wort it will be well over 12 volts. You could use an LM 7812 regulator if you really want to keep it at 12 volts.

 

Just to protect them If none needed, then ok. I am just used to working with the LED themselves, not having them in a finished circuit.

For anyone curious, I got the RGB for 1 reason, well 2, - RED and WHITE.

Red for night time when camping, and white for light when needed.

Got the BLACK PCB so they dont stick out like a sore thumb wherever I mount them.

search criteria I used was

Not sure if you realized or not but those top ones say they run on a 24V system. If it's a completed circuit and meant to run on a 12v system, I don't see why you'd need a resistor unless the instructions specifically say so.

 

Yeah, I saw. Just thought it was interesting. Cool white and Warm white on the same strip.

But I already ordered 6 x 5m rolls of the Black 300 RGB 5050 Waterproof 12v Strips
