LED strip attachment

Those of you who have installed some LED strips on the interior of your vehicles, how have you attached the strips to the plastic? I got a 5 meeter strip that I have ready to attach to certain parts of the interior, but the 3M tacky strip that I have on the back of the light strip is not going to stay on the plastic. Any ideas on how to attach so it will stay? Maybe some hot glue?

If anyone has experience with that please respond.

Have you tried the 3m? Any 3m double sided stuff I have ever used has pretty much stuck well on any kind of surface.

 

I did try to attach the strip to the plastic. I had just a 6 inch strip and it didn't want to stick at all. It is very possible that I had some sort of Armorall or something on the dash, but either way, it didn't want anything to do with staying on there.

 

Ya, I had the same problem with double sided tape.

I ended up using the tape, but put a dab of super glue on it so it would stay put.

Sounds a bit crude, but I didn't use much and is holding just fine.

 

I think I will try hot glue first before going with something as permanent as Super Glue. Hot glue might hold them in place. We will see!

Anyone had luck with getting these to stay in place?

 

I used double sided 3m tape from the auto parts store...put it on the plastic first and let it set for an hr or so...also clean the plastic first with rubbing alcohol

The tape I used I believe is for trim...its not the thin kind that comes on the led strip. Mine have held up for 6 months

 

Use Isopropyl to clean the surface well. 3M has yet to fail me when applied to a properly prepped surface. Good luck

And when applying it to cold surfaces hitting it with a hair dryer or heat gun to warm up the application is also a plus.
