Lazy mans, Fog Light On Anytime Mod

Not sure if anyone else has taken this approach to the fog light mod. Basically I tied them into the parking lights. No need for drill/installing a switch or running wires through the fire wall or any of that "effort".

I have just standard bulbs NOT HIDS. I have the 4cly SR5 and didn't have the relay/wiring pre installed like the V6 seems to.

They stay on through all the light cycles, and turn off when you turn out your lights.

I'm sure this isn't the best way but it works.

Looks like a good idea. I personally try to never use those crimp connectors unless its just temporary until I solder up the connection.

So you've added a 15A fog circuit to the 10A Tail circuit?

Folks don't replicate....

Do add a fused relay circuit to your fogs and use the tail tap as activation of fog relay coil and your good to go.
Battery-fuse-Relay pin 30 (+)
pin 87 to fog lights (+)
pin 85 to chassis ground (-)
pin 86 from Tail Light circuit tap (+)

x2! Your approach is all sorts of messed up. If you have existing fogs, all you had to do was tap the green wire (marker light power wire) and run that to the fog light relay (bend the tab out on the relay, connect the wire, reinstall relay and done). That way the fog light are still being powered off their own fuse, not jumping off the marker light fuse. It's your truck, but what you've done is generally bad practice.

Also, I second not using those vampire clips. Solder and heat shrink FTW

OP you're overloading the circuit to the marker lights, which is asking for trouble. You can fix this in about 5 minutes by adding in a relay as mentioned above.

If you have factory fogs, you don't even need to add a relay. Just run the marker light wire to the existing fog light relay.

Nope didn't have factory fogs, so no luck with the relay. Wouldn't it just trip the fuse if something goes wrong?

I'm kind of surprised you haven't blown a fuse. With the small gauge wire feeding the parking lights, that actually scares me quite a bit.

Yes, in theory you should blow a fuse before melting any wiring, but you are WAY over the amount of power that should be drawn through the tail/parking circuit.

Go get a relay kit from NAPA or Kragen or any decent auto parts store. It's going to come with a relay, switch, and wiring. Most are for a pair of 55W lights. You just don't use the switch. Instead, tap that wire into the parking circuit. That way you have the same function you have right now with your method AND you won't burn down your new truck.

As everyone has stated... The relay+fuse is the way to go! If you dont do it, with the time it will cause you a problem that will take more than 5 minutes... That circuit is overloaded!
