Factory fog light wiring

since i am ditching the factory bumper and going with a tube bumper, i am wondering if the factory fog light wiring harness will support a Blitzpro led light bar (21") if i tapped into the plug on the harness?

should i plug into the drivers or passenger side plug if doing so is safe?

also, does any know where i might be able to purchase a direct plug in adapter to the factory connection?

 

How much draw does the light bar have?

Not sure about the plug, I'd just cut and solder the bar to the factory wiring if it will support it.

EDIT: Just looked up the light bar and it draws 54 watts, that's pushing what I would task the factory wiring with. I know two people, both with lights that draw 55 watts, one is fine on the factory wiring, one keeps blowing fuses. That much wattage, the safest way would be to run new wiring and use the fog light wiring to trigger a relay.

 

what would a safe range be to run on the factory harness? i am trying to keep it as simple as i can. but do not want to risk cooking the wires and end up needing my fire extinguisher or something

 

45 Watts is definitely not an issue. 55 watts seems to be hit or miss based on some other local members' experiences. One is running PIAA 510 lamps of his stock wiring (55W each) but another member tried running the same lamps and kept blowing his fog light fuse. You should blow the fuse before you cook the wires.

 

so running a pair of lights at 55w each, do you add them together to get 110w draw? or does it stay at 55w?

i would only have the 1 LED bar tied into the fog light harness and just a "loose" plug from the other factory light which is not hooked up

 

It would be a total of 110W with the pair of lights but when you blow a fuse at that load, that leads me to believe it is more than the wiring should be handling (55W/side). Since you'll only be tying in to one side, you'll be right at that limit but because the other side isn't being used, you won't blow the fuse. Say if your fuse is 10A, with a pair of lights you'll have 5A through either side. Since you're only using one side of the wiring, you could pull 10A through one side of the wiring before the fuse blows (if the fuse blows before the wiring shorts).

In short, I'd probably use the stock wiring to trigger a relay and give the LED bar it's own power source. That way you'd retain the stock fog light switch and function if that's what you're going for.
