Anyone ever have or thought about retrofitting map lights in rear?

just thought about this tonight. I have a 5 month old, and she cries when the cab is the dark at night, so I turn on the dome light for her, but i hate driving with that thing on. I thought to myself, BMW's, Mercedes, Volvo, etc... they all have small map/reading lights for rear passengers, why can't I? I think that something like that would be a great night light for her, and just to have them in general. It would be pretty easy to do too. what does everyone think?

What about getting your baby a Glow Pet? They cost $30 though.

 

i actually thought about doing this too except with lights from the camry since they move and are like little spot lights that provide just enough light to see my son without bothering me or blinding him. if you decide to do it do a write up so the rest of us can do it too please !

OK!!! so I went for a different way....

I have a power inverter... so i decided to run an extension cord from the front storage cubby, under the center console, then under the carpet, under the b-piller and rear door sill trim. then ran it up the rear seat under the seat back trim and up to one of the rear head rest holes (since I have removed the rear head rests). I couldn't figure out where to mount the light without cutting any carpet or trim, I came up with a different approach. I wanted to put the baby mirror, which was mounted to the seat belt, higher.... been thinking about that all day. took a small metal rod, some 1/4 hose on top, and put them in one of the head rest holes. put a small cut of 3/8" PVC on top of that. my dad (who's house I was at visiting with the baby while the wife was at work), suggested to use shrink wrap instead of paint (paint would start to flake off after the mirror has been moving around on it for a while). changed the female end of the cord to smaller female end and mounted it to the mirror. I think it works great. I don't think i'll do a write up since it's not really hard wired to the truck, and not everyone has a power inverter.
