I just got back from a stupidly long day at the dealership. 6 hours to replace two head light assemblies and to get an alignment done.

I had the headlights replaced because of the well known melting of the running lights. To avoid this again, I would like to replace these with low power, low heat LED replacement bulbs. Do these even exist? Are they easy to do?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes they exist but you have to get resistors so you dont get the hyper blink. Check out vleds.com and they will have everything you need to get it done right. The LED bulbs can get pretty pricey but they are well worth it from those guys cause they are bright! Dont go with any cheap ebay LED bulbs cause you will not be satisfied. I bought 2 different pairs off ebay before I learned my lesson.
