I have purchased some spyder headlight lens and they came with and H1 HID kit in the low beam and I installed all of it in mid September and last week one ballast already quit working I've had different brands off of different sites and slim cubbs pairs all the ballasts have gone out within a year. So with all of the results on ballasts quitting I'm just buying a cheaper slim ballast set off of ebay for $40. Inside the low beam lenses, (the projectors) it looks like a flat slim piece of metal or something similar inside. It cast a black shadow through the middle of your vision when driving at night. Is it a miss manufacture or just how all the spyder lenses are? maybe I don't have them aimed proper? Also can you put HIDs into the high beam side of these housings? Has anyone else purchased theses lights and have had similar problems or questions? I've tried to upload some photos on here so people can understand what I'm talking about I'm not sure if they will work. I want to know if that flat line through the beam is fixable and one pic is trying to show the piece of metal i see inside the projector lens I wanted to know if its supposed to be like that.

its probably their attempt to make it look like the projector has a "step" or "cutoff" like the better projectors.... Piss poor job IMHO, but my opinions not relevant here.

    Id leave it alone.

I would suggest sealing the housings (where the clear meets the gray back piece) with GE silicone II.

    these are prone to leaking

Here is ur pic........... notice all the scattered light above and around that line?

Here is an FX-r projector......... notice there ZERO scattered light above the line?

That weird / shape in the output below is called a "step", the horizontal line is called a "cutoff".

The "step" allows the output light to be aimed BELOW on coming traffics eye on the left, while allowing the right side of the beam to be higher to light up street signs (and u shouldnt have to worry about oncoming traffic on the right side in the US).

Theres the UK or (RHD) designation that reverses the step to provide the same concept in RHD vehicles where traffic will be oncoming to your right side, and traffic signs facing you will generally be on the left.

The cutoff is called that because it does EXACTLY that. It cuts off the light and ensures u can aim ur lights correctly and avoids blinding others.

Something is not right with the lights. Maybe the bulbs at installed wrong. I have the same headlights you have. The only difference is I have the black ones. My cut off is perfect. And I don't think you want hids in the high beam spot. It will scatter all over the place. Hids in anything other then projectors, suck.

Do both side have that piece?

Even the angle of the piece led me to believe it was an attempt at a faux step.

But St3ve may be right and there's something wrong with ur lights.

I'd like to see both the pass and driver side output.

St3ve, any pics of ur cutoff for comparison to his?

Not at the moment. Too cold outside. I'll get some when I get a chance. My cut off is more like yours. I'm baffled on why his is emitting light above the cutoff. It doesn't make sense because the are in projectors. Ya know ?

I dont have fxr anymore sadly... That pic is from TRS.

Not all projectors are created equally, let's just say that. Maybe spyder got a different batch from their supplier?

Possibly. It just seems to be a lot of light breaking the plane.

To my eyes it looks like there is light above the cut offs too? Causing that annoying shadow. Maybe projectors just aren't for me. I may buy a new pair of stock headlights instead.
