Rigid Industries RDS led Light Bars Just Released!

Have you guys seen these? I saw a bunch of dudes running them down at the Baja 1000 and they look really sweet. At SEMA this year I saw a few other companies making radius bars as well so I figure this is the direction high quality LED lighting is headed.

"RIGID’s NEW RDS family of LED light bars is ready for production starting January 8th, 2014!

The RIGID RDS LED Lightbars were on display for the world to see at SEMA 2013 and they did not disappoint. The excitement and buzz over Rigid’s new patent pending technology has not slowed down. Rigid, once again, is leading the LED innovation charge by offering the newest and most impressive LED lightbars available!

This linear light bar is the legendary flagship E-Series light bar treated to a gentle arc, creating a curve in a 20”-54” extruded aluminum housing and packed full of Rigid Industries Spot LED technology to produce an astonishing custom look for any car, truck or offroad vehicle. The RDS-Series is the apex of form and function."

Rigid Industries RDS-Series is another first for the LED lighting industry and has been in testing and pre-production for the last two years and was first tested by BJ Baldwin as seen on his trophy truck at Parker 300 in January 2012. Since that time, Rigid Industries’ engineering team has been through numerous design changes, incorporating multiple patent pending utility and design features. The RDS LED light bar transforms the rectangular light bar Rigid Industries created, which became a phenomenon in 2006, to give this futuristic design sleekness and offer its customers an increased light spread. The world is curved, match it.

Rigid Industries RDS Part Numbers

88221 – RDS-Series 20″ Spot
88321 – RDS-Series 30″ Spot
88421 – RDS-Series 40″ Spot
88521 – RDS-Series 50″ Spot
88621 – RDS-Series 54″ Spot

Maybe a dumb question. From end to end if you measure in a straight line it's 40"? Or is the circumference 40"?

Sierra Expeditions had a prototype for one a while back. Not sure if it went in to production but they'd be a good place to start.

Another random but particular question... Are the mounting bolts straight across or are they part of the curved radius as well? Hard to tell from pics.

Reason I ask is I'm wondering if a 40" RDS will be a direct drop-in on a mount that currently holds an E-series 40". I don't want to have to bend the brackets outward, if that makes sense.

It will need some re-working. The mounts on the RDS don't come straight out from the bolts, rather they attach to the bolts (of which there are now two, not one) and 90 down to a plate. Sort of like the new Q-series if you've seen those. Most likely a moderate modification. My RDS shipment hits in a week or two, so stoked!

I have a proprietary mount that extends off my roof rack and just has one hole. From what I'm gathering it's pretty much the same bolt but instead of one there are two and they are also in line with the curve?

Pretty sure Rebel Off-Road in Lake Forest CA does. I've seen it on The_Traveler's truck. They make a pretty cool mount that looks bad ass on the 2nd gen's. I believe they run about $120 but call, ask for matt, and ask for the "bro deal" He always helps out fellow TW members.

The RDS-Series will be using a totally different mounting system. We went with a dual pivoting setup. Our mounts are straight across but are not like our standard E-series end caps. Hopefully this answers your questions. Thanks

There are a couple mounting solutions coming out for the Tacoma for roof mounted light bars. RDS mounts are in the works as well. There are some fab shops making mounts for the cheaper made curved bars, but the RDS have a dual pin per side mount.

Yeah...I've done some research. Rigid is like Skunkworks...you don't know what or when it's coming although it will be good...lol I'll prob get the lightbar before the mounts come out... I saw the Raptors had a pillar type of mount, but it looks to be too low on the windshield for my liking. Hope they devise a roof rail mount. Fingers crossed

My business partner spoke with the owner of Rigid last night at the SEMA Garage event in California and he said Rigid is working hard and are positive they will begin shipping our RDS orders in less then two weeks. If you want to get in on our preorder list and reserve one for yourself let me know!!

Have a good weekend.
