    Hi TW!

I just ordered an LED light bar and I have a wiring question.

I want to set up the light bar so it always comes on with high beams but also is on an independent switch, so i can just turn it on any time i want.

Can this set up be done? Anyone done something similar? And what relay did you use?

Or am I over thinking it and I should just run 86 from high beams and from the led light bar switch and splice them together?

Thanks for the input! Photos, Product review and write up to come.

It can be done much easier than what you have drawn. Look into a double pole, double throw switch (basically an on-off-on switch). I ordered a DPDT switch through OTRATTW.com and had my lights wired up exactly the way you're describing. The upward 'on' position allowed the lights to be cycle on when the high beams were on, the downward 'on' position allowed me to turn the lights on whenever the ignition was on. I'll get the link to the thread I started when I was wiring mine up and feel free to ask any questions.

    Check this out:
    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/technical-chat/247940-wiring-diagram-check.html

That thread shows which switch I used and how I had everything wired up. 1 switch, 1 standard relay and just some fancy wiring.

The potential problem I see with your wiring diagram OP, is that if you did wire it like that, then whenever you turned on the switch, you would also turn on the high beams.

This was pretty much all I was going to say, I just don't like to splice in to the oem wiring for the headlights, I was going to suggest another hot wire from the fuse panel.

I think it would work "as diagrammed" IF he tapped the high beams "downstream" (I'm sure there's a technical term for it) of the left or right high-beam bulb.

Power can still backfeed through the circuit. The diagram shown is not a good way to go about wiring and would only work with the use of diodes.

Thanks for all the input. Pugga I looked at the thread you posted on your wiring diagram. Just to dumb it down. I re did my little shitty diagram. this look right?

For a simple switch, that looks great. That's the general concept I was talking about. Depending on the switch you choose, some would have a few more pins on the backside of the switch and the lights on the switch would be wired independently. Otherwise, that's the idea

Thanks to all for their help. TW is awesome. Will post an install thread when the parts arrive.

Yeah all you need is a single diode and problem solved. Id use a 1.5 or even a 3amp diode. Can get them for less than $1 at radio shack
