There are mixed reviews on the amp and what it can do. It's supposed to be 2x180w, but the power input is 12v at 2 amps. We'll see what it sounds like when I get it put together.

There are several amps with the same form factor so if this one doesn't work out I'll try a different one.

Nice. what speakers are you going to use. i'm debating on using my marine Polk Audios, or just getting a new kit with everything. mine will be in a second stereo only box though. not all-in-one like yours.

Just so everyone knows what we are talking about, round 2 is the same concept, but a stereo instead of lights. Nathan is simply combining the two into one.

    Picture for refference......

The usb will only be for charging. The bluetooth receiver is an option that I may add later on.

This is very, very cool... It's like combining the necessities of night camping with the convenience of charging the electronics that would prob be almost burnt out from the days use.

I'll def be trying to assemble one of these before my trip to Canada. Thanks for the write up!

I also should mention, I used an AC charger because i have the factory inverter wired to an outlet inside of the cab. this allows me to use it at night, and charge it while driving around all day. if you do not have in-cab AC power, you can simply splice up a male/male 12V cord and charge it directly off of a cigarette lighter outlet.

Hmm, I like how easy it is to expand on the idea and customize it to your liking. I probably don't need it but I always need a little side project.

Precisely. Goal of this thread was to show that you can fit a decent amount of 12V power into a portable, watertight unit, as a reasonable price. what you do with that power is up to you and your imagination....

Any chance of it recharging the truck battery in case of rundown?

the thought actually crossed my mind at one point. chances are slim, but it all depends on how dead it is. the batteries i used do not have the cold CCA to start a truck on their own. that means, that you'd have to hook it up to your vehicle and let the voltages equalize between the betteries. so with a completely dead battery, no chance in hell you'll bring the voltage up enough to start the truck. however, if you're just below the starting threshold (somewhere in the 9V range), then maybe. i would not treat this as a backup jumper though.

those LED's suck. light output is good. cases are heavy steel. biggest problem is the reflectors are loose in the light and bounce around. I bought four of them and only one is properly secured. I fear if I don't stop the reflector from bouncing around on top of the LED they won't last long.
