I am in the market for some extra light.
Ive been trying to compare Hella 500 driving light to Hella Black Magic driving lights.

    the 500s use H3 12v 55watt bulbs
    $50.00 set

    the BM use H2 12v 55watt bulbs
    $170.00 set

what light is brighter and will shot farther? does anyone have experience with either one?
i like the black magics but am i paying $120 for strictly the black out feature

    getting there....
i have the 500's, and im happy with them. plenty bright enough for me. i think the black magics are a bigger light, with a better light output.........i think the bulbs are bigger, and the reflectors may be a bit better in the black magics than in the 500's.

+1 Better output on the light when the light is off you see the black and when you hit the switch it reflects alot better, better technology into the light, i too have the hella 500's and i am happy with them if i need more light thats what my hid offroad light are for.

To me high beams send a wide pattern out, im sure its a driving pattern unless it states its a pencil beam pattern,
pencil beam is just that - a very long, narrow beam - very specialized. Used for rally in conjunction with other lamps and used for desert racing but with at least a dozen on a vehicle
fog pattern is very wide and very flat. Maybe 170 Degrees wide and only a couple feet high. Only good for several hundred feet by design
Driving light produces a long-range pencil-shaped light pattern. Greatly increases night time visibility at highway speeds.
