I got an amber led from superbrightleds.com they were like 2 bucks and they have a 3' lead on them. 3M backing and flat line wire for the first 6 inches. they are .25" x .25". bright also. I put them in all 4 door pockets also and wired into the window power. the cupholder is just spliced into the backlights by the heat controls

Do you have a materials list? I'm looking in to doing this, but do not know where to start.

Any chance you can post a write up for that light strip inside the center console, looks pretty bright and you can never see anything in there at night. Also I was thinking, can you splice off of that wire and run lights to the rear cup holders?

has anyone tried (or thought about) placing an LED firing downward between the lighter and the power supply (just below the AC controls) to illuminate the cubby in front of the cup holder? Or, is there enough room to run a second set of LEDs and wiring from the front of the cup holder firing forward?

The pic of the amber lights is a single flat led firing down. I mounted it on the underside of the dash right above the cig lighters. The pic doesn't do justice. It lights up the cup holders and the storage pocket awesome.

    here's my take on it:

I used the light from the shifter as a power source. I spliced into it and ran a pos and neg off it.

If you look at my first pic. That is how mine is set up. On the lip under AC controls. I have a radio in my well down there but the light will make it in there. Superbrightleds.com has a ton of cool LEDs and cheap.

I have been wanting to do something like this for a while.

thought for mine I want to use LED light strips under my dash to light the floor. I didnt even think about the cup holder, but i want to do that as well now. I just have to figure out how I can wire a switch in hot so that I can turn it on with the car on or off......maybe. thats how i have my dixe horn hooked up anyways.

then again i also want to hook a seperate switch up to my bed to light it up as well...but that will be later

Redrum29, great writup and job. I followed your directions and put the led's in the cupholders, glove box and center console. Now I want to put led's in the rear cup holder and the bottom of the back center vent. My question is how does the back come off the console so you have access to put the led's in the vent and cupholder. I figured it is uses clips but not sure which way to pull on it to get it off.

I had to drill thru my center console into the rear cupholder. Then I put an led in the hole
I made in center console and rear cupholder,so I have led in both holes I made. For my vent I just taped an led in place to where I wanted it to shine thru my vents. I have pics in my writup

my version cuts on only when the lights are on since it comes on with the shifter light. and on top of that, in my diagram i show how i ran a switch over to the far left cubby to manually cut them off if i want.

I was able to pull the back off the center console. I mounted 1 led in the rear cupholder and hot glued 2 led's to shine through the rear vent in he console back. Happy with the install.
