I am wondering how I can make my tail lights a five pin system. Currently I have a four pin on my 2006 SR5 double cab. I bought a boat with a five ion and while an adapter gets me from a to b I don't have breaks without the five.

How about going to a 7 pin? Do you have a tow package

The truck did not come with a tow package. However I have had a receiver and a four ion system installed. I don't believe I need a 7 pin system but then again I have done well with a 4 pin for a long time so who knows. I guess if I'm going to upgrade the trailer lights why not go all the way.
    Ok what does it take?

Well the first question I would be asking you is WHY are you looking at 5 pins?

Its easy, just a new plug and some extra wire. I wouldnt bother with a 5 though. 7 is more versatile. I usually end up swapping all my 4 pin trailers to a 7 so i dont have to worry about adapters. But i have a 4/7 plug on the truck now so no worries either way"

It's both as easy and as hard as pulling out your existing 4 wire trailer pigtail harness and replacing it with a 5 pin harness.

Since you're asking the question, I'm guessing you didn't install the original harness.

It's the work of an hour or two if you know what you're doing. If you're painstakingly tracing wiring diagrams and reading the magnifying glass fine print on the trailer harness wiring - best to allow a full Saturday for the job.
