Let me know if I am misunderstanding you, but the RGB LED strips and segments that I deal with have a single chip, but with 3 diodes in each chip, allowing for the different color variations, not 3 separate chips grouped together. Or am I misunderstanding what you are saying.

Just because Rigid is rumored to be the best, doesn't mean that they are the only ones who would be doing research on them. Aurora is a leading manufacturer of light bars, and the electronics used to control the LEDs is the SAME circuitry used by Rigid. Take a Rigid apart, and inspect the microchip. "Made in Taiwan", just like the Aurora bars. Rigid gets a lot of the attention because they have an impressive optics reflector that is patented. Doesn't mean their internals are all USA made. Hell, the CREE LEDs are ALL manufactured by a German company.

Andrew, I'm glad you came back here but pretty disappointed you ignored every post except BamaToy's since your first post in this thread.

Please explain your initial post if you're able to justify it?

Ummm, I thought it was too expensive. I really don't know how to elaborate further. But I'll try.

I have a dollar. What I see for sale costs $2. It is too expensive. Even if I want it, I won't buy it based on price.

    I want a coke, the machine needs $1.25. I only have .50, I guess I don't get a coke.

I have all the money in the world, minus the exact same amount of money. Something costs money, I have none, so I can't buy it.

Specifically to this lightbar, I think the dual color is a good idea, I didn't like the price I saw on it. I chose not to buy it based on price.

I could go further, but I think I keep writing the same thing.

I would think that having 2 leds inside 1 lens would not be ideal for efficiency. They wouldn't be centered in the lens but offset to allow room for both leds. Unless the lens is specifically designed for 2 leds inside it the output wouldn't be ideal. They could have a white/amber led on the same chip, but I don't think that's the case or have never seen one. I returned my first Chinese led bar for this reason. Not one led was centered in the lens and I was not impressed with the quality or output. But just my opinion.

    Just a few LEDs...
Dimming LEDs is different than dimming incandescent bulbs. With incandescent bulbs the voltage is varied to change the brightness. With LEDs the current is varied. This could be problem depending on how all of the LEDs in a light bar are wired up. They could be powered with 12v directly or they could receive power from a regulated power supply.

The brightness of an individual LED or a small strip is easy to control with a variable resistor which can vary the relatively low current (several milliamps). Light bars on the other hand draw a considerably more current (many watts), which would probably need to be controlled with a power supply designed to vary the current to the individual LED elements in order to keep the current that is controlled down to a manageable level. If you tried to control all of the LEDs from one circuit, you'd need some massive high power (expensive) semiconductors to handle that much current. By controlling the current to each of the LEDs with multiple circuits, each circuit only has to handle a fraction of the total power consumption of the light bar and could have smaller and less expensive components. I could of course be completely wrong, but that's how I would design it. ;)

I'm guessing, but Vision X probably has their light bars specifically designed to have the ability to be dimmed with of course their proprietary dimmer. That is interesting though, I'll have to check that out. :D

By "chip" I mean individual diode. Diodes are a sandwich made of two layers of silicon. Essentially this is a chip. I've seen "3 chip LEDs" which are three diodes (chips) mounted in a common case (epoxy) to form one three color LED.

It's also possible that the three individual diodes are etched on a common layer of silicon much like integrated circuits that can have millions of diodes and transistors in one chip.

In order to tell exactly how a particular LED product is constructed, I'd probably need to use a microscope. In any case, we're talking about the essentially same thing (multicolor LEDs).

Aw, cute how you now say you think the dual color is a good idea, when I was actually referring to this comment.

Edit: Is there a reason you think it's a bad idea to have dual colors? Unless you changed your mind? Please explain why if so...

But if you guys post a negative comment that you don't like it, that's fine, just explain WHY you think that instead of trolling. I'm all for arguments because it brings out some good info in the end. So I'll just sit back for a while and eat more :D

I will have to check with them. I haven't ordered anything from them lately.

I wasn't sure what you meant, that is why I asked. I know the construction basics, just wanted clarification on that post to be sure. :D

Yeah, no problem. The amber/white light bars probably have two light emitting diodes (LEDs) combined in one small package to form a two color LED for each of the lighting elements. without a microscope, it looks like a single LED. ;)

yeah I did a little research and I don't think it'll be possible. Although my bars are Chinese knock offs of vision x evo prime, I highly doubt the circuitry is the same. Vision X states that the dimmers only work with their "prime drive" tech bars.
Here's a link to those dimmers if you wanted to check it out and read up on that.

OK, this is a direct quote of the post. My only post reference this bar, prior to post 29.

"I saw those on those on ebay, ended up not getting one based on priced.

That and having 2 colors in 1 lightbar causes cancer."

1 point, simple, 1 joke, obvious. What exactly in that post are you taking offense to? Post 29 goes into further detail about my personal choice about price. I really can't explain the joke. It's a joke. I guess I could have changed cancer to world hunger, global warming, sun flares...

I am honestly interested at this point.
