I just got a visionx 40" lightbar to go on my roof and it has 3 wires on each side red black and yellow. Can someone explain why they're on each side and whats the yellow for ? I've never seen wires on both sides.

i would contact the manufacture for a wiring diagram. i wouldn't even try and guess how that should be wired.

Ummm. I have no clue. Ha. Did you purchase that through vision x? Is it new or used? Maybe someone put some led strips in there for backlighting?? Idk! Or maybe they wire them like that as a convenience? I do know that the circuitry is built to allow for dimming. Maybe that is what the yellow is for. Hmm.. I've got knock offs of the vision x evo prime, but they use Cree and certainly not the same tech that vision x uses in their bars..

    Here's a email response

Hi Joe here with Vision X, you must have a Prime Extreme 40" bar, the bar has two power sources due to the amp draw the standard connector we used wouldn't carry what was needed and get really hot and melt. So we went and made the bar with two, one on each end.

Red is power, black is ground and the yellow is the dimming wire (most people don't dim the light so just don't use it at all)

Aha! I was right:) Yellow is for dimming. That was another reason I wanted a vision x. And I thought about that too, that it may need two power sources for the extremes' high output. That's kinda crazy. Makes me wonder if the 400 watt osram bars have sufficient power.. Also makes me wonder if that's why my evo prime flickers under heavy loads, as it only has the one lead... I was planning on running larger gauge wiring to see if that helps. Because I installed a dc power engineering high output alt that cost me almost $400 and I still have issues with my lights flickering during the summer when the alt is running hotter. Hmm.. Well that kinda sucks you have to wire it up twice, but nice you have the extreme bar if that's the case. That thing should really throw some light! What's the lumen rating on it?

I believe I'm going to run both leads to a single 30/40 amp relay then run that to ridecontroller. Hopefully that'll withstand the load. If not I'll put two. And the site says 16,400 raw lumens

Which one is it? Is it the xmitter prime extreme or just the xmitter prime??

    40" XMITTER PRIME XTREME-35,496 Lm 360W 5watt leds
    40" XMITTER PRIME-16,416 Lm 216W 3watt leds

The xmitter prime is rated for the 16k lumens. That shouldn't need two leads on that one. Most bars of that length that have the 3watt leds do just fine and its only rated at 216 watts. Shouldn't be any reason for that one to melt anything. Now if its the extreme, then I'd understand which is what Vision X said in their response. But that one throws over 35k lumens!!! IF thats the one you have, then thats pretty awesome. A little curious as to how you aren't sure what one you have. Thats a huge difference both in quality AND the price is the same for whatever reason on their site. I think that may be a mistake on their part. Because if you purchased this from their site, and you got the 16k lumen 3watt prime, you couldve possibly gotten the 35k lumen upgrade for the same price if it is in fact the same price... I'll ask again, how did you come by this bar??

Edit: And how much did u get it for? New from vision x direct says $1929.00!

Yeah man. That bar is nuts. Wish I could get one. Like I said I wanted the exact same bar but the 42". It's got 38k lumens! I bet it outshines the osram 40k bar too with their sweet optics. Hurry up and get that thing mounted up!! I wanna see it outshine everyone's bar here! :D
