Side Turn Signal Repeaters / Markers

Hi -

I'm starting to formulate a plan of attack for a set of turn signal repeaters, like those mandated on all vehicles in Japan and Europe. I'm encountering issues while driving where other folks have no idea I'd like to make a lane change because my truck is so long that they can' see either the front or rear blinkers.

Here's what I'd like to replicate the function of:

Has anyone done this?

My thoughts: I'm not keen on drilling holes in steel to accommodate the lights. Maybe a mount on the underside of the mirrors would work.

 

I want to do this too.
I did it on my Honda CRX, and it seemed to really make a difference.

The ones on the mirrors don't seem to work as well - they are usually positioned so they are only visible from certain quarters. My friend's Chevy truck has them in the mirror glass and, to me, they are kind of annoying.

I say, drill those holes and never look back!

(and if that's your M3, I am jealous!)

 

I have not though about this, but the mirrors may be the easiest solution. Use high intensity LEDs in the outer edg of the mirror inside of the cover.

 

I have the LED side marker install.... i buy the one just stick on with 3M tape, let me show you some photos tomorrow.

 

This is one of the reasons I bought a Fire and Ice light bar. Turn signals, break (or running) red lights and white reverse LEDs. Looks and works great. Even had a compliment from a guy in a corvette.

Try www.muthmirrors.com and see what you can find. I think you would like the flasher unit to be in the mirror. It's readily seeable when cars start to pass you....

 

I'd love to see some pics of side marker / LED installs on a Taco. I've been thinking that this may be my next mod.

I'm want to do the same thing also, trying to decide between the mirrors and turn signal repeaters. Any other thoughts?

Found it. Also, found the LEDs on the website: http://www.oznium.com/led-modules. Too, bad they don't have them in white, because my truck is white and not sure how the black ones will look on it and don't like chrome.

 

I think www.mito.com or www.gentex.com might have a mirror with signals in it if you wanted to go that way. Not sure about the url but the name of the corp is correct.

 

Thanks for the suggestion. I know street scenes has mirrors with signals in them. Was thinking about doing those. But not sure, if to do those or repeaters. Seems lie mirrors with signals in them will be annoying while driving especially at night. Haven't been in a vehicle that has them.

Just want to get some input of what people thought looked better, mirrors with signals or signal repeaters on the fenders and are better as far as visibility for other drivers go.

 

Personal experience I've had is the mirrors with signals. When I go to pass a car most drivers have their outside rearview mirrors positioned so they can see a passing car. I've seen those mirrors with signals on and came back behind the car I was passing because of that. My preference though...

 

You are one of a few who are actually considerate. Most of the time I find that when I turn my turn signal on to change lanes, people who are behind me in the lane that I want to get into, speed up to keep me from getting in front of them, even if I am going a little faster than they are.

Good point, I read your post last night, and was on the freeway early this morning and found that it is easier to see the signal on mirrors when I was behind the person in the next lane, but didn't see any vehicles with the repeaters to make a comparison. Will have to try to remember to keep an eye out for those while on the road, to see which easier to see.
