They are most likely illegal to turn on while driving.

I wouldn't want to be the guy who has them and gets hassled....but it's your truck bro...

They are illegal even in the desert. Granted its hard to get caught when nobody can see you but we tried it one time so we could go out on a night ride and always see the guy in the back. BLM didn't think it was funny. We got chewed out pretty good.

illegal on the road, at least where I live, and I'm sure even off-road you could get pinned for impersonating an officer if you did something that merited attention from the law

The one time you "accidentally" turn them on and get caught, will make you wish you never had them in the first place. Either become a cop, or don't put them on.

    New truck....so nothing yet
Good GOD!!! It is illegal in all 50 states!!!! Unless you are a legally authorized LEO or other emergency personnel. You can be charged federally for impersonating a police officer. It actually happened here. DO NOT... I REPEAT.... DO NOT PUT YOURSELF IN THAT SITUATION. You won't like the results.

Being "technically" legal might not get you carted downtown but it certainly won't win you any friends in the LE community. Prolly not the best move to make... just sayin'

Seeing how you are in California I would review the vehicle codes.

    They can be found here.

Regarding flashing lights on a vehicle.

    It states
    Permitted flashing lights
From what I gather in my research and lack of effort to post up... In short You can have them you just can't use them.

Theyre freakin sweet... I must agree.

BUT, no bueno. The charge of "Impersonating a Cop", does not go over very well in the judicial system. Dont do it.
