I heard on one of the forums (cant remember which one) that the 3rd brake light is the same for 1st and 2nd gens (specifically 2001-2004 & 2005-2010). By this I mean their shape, dimensions and screw points. Anyone know if this is true, because there is a price difference on ebay

I've looked at them and they are pretty close. Someone else is gonna have to confirm this.

I just looked up a couple sources from a vendor of mine and it seems they are the same. That would confirm it in my mind, should be good to go.

    Got an extra lens?? :D

Well I have been wanting to do this for a while. Get a clear lens, tint the middle section red, and put an LED board behind it from another car. Wire the left and right side of the LED board to the dome light or a pin switch when you open the bed.

if you buy of those led 3rd brake lights you could open it up swap out the 2 end leds on each side to white and have them wired separately to a switch as a bed light, leaving the inner leds as brake only. it would take some work but doable.
