LOL. It was the first time soldering anything this tiny. I could NOT find any tips that were narrow enough for my liking. That is after visiting 2 private electronics shops as well as the local Radio shacks. When your tip is almost the size of the damned LED, ya might have problems.
The marshmellow LED phenomenon usually occurred after a poor initial placement, then having to melt the joint enough to move the LED to a better position. More often than not it seems if you've gotta try again, best to remove it, let it cool down, then try again. I ordered literally 2 times as many blue LEDs as I needed but didn't have the foresight to do it with the whites.
Iron used was a 25 watt Weller but the tip was just too damned large for my liking. With more practice, yeah I could probably get it down. I'm convinced I'm all thumbs when it comes to working with anything smaller than a 1/4 inch square. Tried using some small tweezers to position the LED but they seemed to get in the way more than anything when it came down to it.
pics of your dash lit up please, thanks.
Not worth my time, it's the same as any White needle and Blue lettering combination in the other dash conversion threads.
Only exception is the possibility that my speedo needle may turn red at 100+ mph and now that it is back in the dash I'm not keen on testing it much less taking a picture of it.
