55w ballasts won't melt your lenses. The stock lights that come with the Hella's are 55w bulbs so there is absolutely no additional heat being produced from the 55w HID kit. Look online and some people actually put 100w bulbs in their Hella's with no melting occurring (most people also upgrade to heavier wiring if they choose to do this).

I believe you can get away with just using the harness that comes with the Hellas. Personally I decided to go ahead and buy the harness with my VVME HIDs.

Are your lights close to your grill craft? I have the same and want to be able to see the lights when not turned on during the day.

Cheers

Hate to revive this thread, but my Hella 500's came in yesterday and I plan on installing them today. My HID kit won't be here until late next week, but I'm ready to install TODAY! Will it be troublesome to go ahead and install everything today and then just take the lights out when my HID kit gets here or should I just be patient and wait?

And just to be sure, this is the HID kit I ordered from DDM. Everything look right?

DDM HID Kit With Slim Ballast - 35W or 55W (Xenon)
35W
H3 bulb
4500K bulb color
no mounting brackets
no HID harness
no error eliminator
no adapter cables

I made the mounting bar and painted my radiator before I received the lights. Definitely would do it this way again because it cut down time significantly. So to answer your question it would be very troublesome to do the wiring before actually being able to wire anything ha ha Looks like you ordered the correct hids. I ordered the 55 watts because they significantly brighter according to ddm's website. Also i got the mounting brackets so i didn't have to use Velcro. Good luck and post some pics for sure!

I will! I just got started and already have run into problem #1. How the heck do I run the angle iron across without removing the hood latch? Also, if I remove the hood latch, how the heck do I keep my hood closed!? Frustrated!!!!

You don't have to remove the hood latch, just the hood latch guard. Are you just using one piece of angle iron? Did you make drop down brackets?

I got it figured out. I did it w/o drop down brackets. I'm gonna go back and put the brackets on so they'll sit in the middle of the grill. I don't like how the top of the lights are cut off

EDIT: night time

I ordered some hella 700ff's and the HID Kit from DDM, and haven't found a wiring diagram anywhere.. Is this that I've drawn up far from accurate?
