Light Wiring Help Please

I'm going to be doing a project soon to wire up some lights on my 2010 PreRunner. I figure there is an easy way to accomplish this, but I couldn't find exactly what I'm looking for. Here's what I'm looking to accomplish:

I want to wire up these lights up to a switch so that I can turn them on and off. But at the same time I want to wire them up so that when my truck is off, the lights go off. That way I can't run down my battery if I accidentally leave them on.

I'm figuring a relay with 30-battery positive, 87-lights positive, 86-ground, and 85 going to one side of my switch.

I'm hoping that sounds right. However, my question is on where I should run the other side of my switch. Should I run it to the running light, accessory side of the key switch, etc.? What's the best place to tie into, where is the wire and what color?

Why not hook up your 30 to a switched 12-volt?

What I am saying is to connect 30 on the relay to a switched 12-volt. Meaning it only gets power when your truck is on.

 

easiest way is to do that ^^^^ with the sig lighter or 12v outlet. or you can get an add-a-fuse. just plug it into the IG1 or IG2 fuse position. those are in the small fuse box behind your coin compartment
