no, they are not good. you will NOT get the output like the FX35, lexus, etc vehicles w/ these. they do NOT use OEM hid, they just use basically a foglight bulb in a halogen projector which equals terrible output.

ok, I was reading the description in the ebay listing and it says:

"This auction comes with a 6000K hyper white (pure white) HID conversion kit for your low beam, including 2 x correct size light bulbs, 2 x ballasts (with built-in starter/igniter), 2 x secure mounting brackets, zip ties, adhesive tapes and all necessary wires for installation."

I just want something a little better than the stock ones. I don't really care if they are legit oem HID's like on the Lexus. I just want to get rid of the "yellow" lights and give them a little extra brightness. Will these give me at least better output than the stock headlights or should I just buy another stock headlight?

6000k and 8000k are simply the color rating, and the lights get less bright beyond 5000k, so 8000k will actually have less light on the road than 6000k, which will have less light on the road as 5000k HID bulbs. see below for a k (kelvin) scale.

    ColorChart1_27d9f042c3e9354437c6c2998cf134d0d07572e9.jpg

if you want something just a little better than stock, check out some phillips xtreme power bulbs. ran them for a few years. slightly bluer and brighter...and you wont get all the crappy glare from the PNP kits from slimchubby, DDM, etc...

First plug and play HIDs are illegal. If that does not dissuade you we can move on.

8K is less bright than 6K optimum brightness is at 4300-4700K. 5K is 10% less output. 6K is 33% reduction in output. 8K is even less... it gets exponentially worse as K temperature rises. Also glare is increased in haze, fog, or rain above 5K.

Projector headlamp bulbs like a DS2 are significantly higher output from the start, even for the same color temp vs say an H1 or H3 Xenon bulb. 8K plug and plays are just not a real good idea. You get suboptimal (and illegal) beam pattern distribution and significantly lowered output over a propper 4700K projector that has all OEM parts and is not illegal.

The only reason 6K+ lamps exists is because people see the artifact of projectrs where the light is refracted and some of the color spectrum is lost on the edge. This leaves a blue to purple line at the top of the cut off. It is a purely negative aspect of HID projectors that is inherant to the design. If manufacturers could eliminate it they would. This causes people at the edge of the beam to see it as a blueish or purplish headlight color. The light itself is the propper 4700K as that is what is brightest and makes the most sense from a viewing perspective of the driver. Its just the bad ege that is purple. People often try to make this ege more blue and larger, reducing the area of quality light that can be used at the edge of the headlights range. A reall silly and backwards idea from a utility perspective.

So you get ignorant people trying to look like projector assemblies by making the whole beam a blueish color. Not only is this counter to producing the most usable light they are in fact trying to reproduce the NEGATIVE inherant color shift line produced by an HID projector. Its a pure poser and ignorance thing when people get 6K+ colored lamps.

The Tacoma does not have an especially good beam pattern distribution when using illegal HID kits in the halogen reflector assembly. Its not especially horrible either as far as those things go. The reason the beam pattern is never perfect is becasue the light source never matches the halogen filament in size, shape, etc. so the reflectors are not at the propper angle. Its like putting on someone elses glasses... you just cannot see perfectly unless the glasses (reflector) are matched to your eyesight (the bulb or lightsource).

Id suggest a projector retrofit and 4700K bulbs. You get the most light, you get the best beam pattern, and its not easy to prove its illegal like a plug and play KIT. Its also the most expensive option unfortunately.

^ bravo...couldnt have said it better myself!!

but be careful, people who are ignorant will tell you that a PNP kit gives just as good of a beam pattern.

I actually have the same lens with the HID kit, but mine are 8000k. TOTAL waste of money, I installed them last week and couldent be angrier. they are brighter than stock with the original bulb that comes with the lenses but once you change it to the HID, it goes downhill from there.. plus the led's and halos are run off of the corner light wires, unless you have day time running lights, so it is no where near the wattage neccesary to make them bright. i will post pics as soon as i figure out how.http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash1/hs501.ash1/29676_1317584532054_1003973193_30792707_5758681_n.jpg http://hphotos-sjc1.fbcdn.net/hs652.snc3/32223_1320604127542_1003973193_30797596_6966137_n.jpg http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos...20604167543_1003973193_30797597_1558635_n.jpg

I know this forum loves to hate these lights but I've had mine for awhile now and love them. Mine have HID's and are brighter than my OEM halogen's which is enough for me. Just my two cents :)

do you have the same kit as the one referenced in the first link?? if so are you running the LED's and Halo's off of your DRL or corner lights?
