Looking into gettin HID's and have a few Q's

Im looking into getting HID's for my 2006 white access cab tacoma. I've been doing my reserch and have found generally people reccomend a 6000k light bulb. Im wonderin would 35w or 55w be better. Also would H6 be good?

I'm pretty sure H4 for headlight and H10 for fogs....and 6000K is a good temperature.
55W will be VERY strong and fairly obviously swapped. May or may not get you pulled over. I've also heard of folks melting light housings with 55W lights.

 

4300k will give you the most lumens and light on the road. im w/ the other guys, retro or not at all...the glare is just stupid w/o a retro

So a 4300k with a 35 watt would be best and w/ a retro would mean i wouldnt blind people.

That would be my choice if I did that mod. Once much over 5,000 K you get less usable light on the road as it becomes more blue than white. 35 watts of HID is about equal to 130 watts of halogen... It just doesn't need any more because HID (xenon) is that much more efficient than halogen (iodine). The beauty of HID is that it only needs 35 watts to create so much bright light.

Since 5,000 K isn't available, 4,300 or 6,000 is. 700 K difference is closer than 1,000.

 

correct. OEM ballasts only come in 35W, and OEM bulbs only come in 4300k, both in which should tell you something! phillips 85122 bulbs will "colorshift" to about 5000k after about 100 hrs, whereas 85122+ bulbs will stay at 4300k their entire life.

w/ a retro, you are using an OEM projector as well, so it will have the same output as the infinity FX35, acura TL, etc...

 

I think you might want to read the moss act (?) before going this far...federal law can modify federal regulation....I'll see if I can find it....

ddm tuning offers a 5000K

also if its a stock light housing you will need an H4 bulb like said before.

retrofits/projectors are the best way to go with HID's

also id recommend ddm tuning or slimcubby for the source of your hid's

edit: also 55W washes out color in the bulb, so a 8000K 55w would be like a 6000k 35w.

 

I live next to a precinct with tons of cops roaming all around. I've got 4300k phillips bulbs running off 55w ballasts and they're aimed perfect (finally). They've rolled up next to me and asked questions about mods and such but have never mentioned my headlights. I think as long as they're aimed well and not blue/purple like ricers you should be fine. i got my setup from theretrofitsource.com ..lots of guys get there projectors there

 

Thanks for that... but I was only thinking of Slimcubby's light deal, which has no 5,000Ks.

I went to DDM in San Diego, and didn't get any customer service there (I asked to see a catalog of products since there is no show room display of all their lights)... basically told to go online and pick the product then come back! Others have gotten the wrong color bulb mixed in with their 2 light order, more than once I believe... Then there are those who have nothing but good things to say about them... Sort of a take your chance kind of deal?

So, I may wait for another Slim deal or risk a DDM purchase... or something else all together...? I don't do that much night driving... and have the two monster Hellas for the desert!
